J. Burton Rix

J. Burton Rix was an American football and basketball coach. He was a 1906 graduate of Dartmouth College.[citation needed] Rix had served as head men's basketball coach at the University of Texas at Austin in 1912. He became head football coach at Southern Methodist University in 1917, but had to leave the program following a 1–6–1 season in 1921. In 1929, Rix became the second head football coach at the University of Miami, after a group of local businessmen financially backed the school. However, Rix left after one season as the Wall Street Crash of 1929 caused the off-campus financing to disappear.[1]
