Etzelkofen is a municipality in the district of Fraubrunnen in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
History
Etzelkofen is first mentioned in 1302 as villa Ezenchoven.[1]
Geography
Etzelkofen has an area of Template:Km2 to mi2. Of this area, 57.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 35.8% is forested. The rest of the land, (7.1%) is settled.[2]
It is located on the Rapperswil plateau.
Demographics
Etzelkofen has a population (as of 2007[update]) of 319, of which 1.6% are foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -6.7%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (99.2%), with English being second most common ( 0.6%) and French being third ( 0.3%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 51.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP (14.9%), the SPS (10%) and the Green Party (9.6%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0-19 years old) make up 26.3% of the population, while adults (20-64 years old) make up 59.8% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Etzelkofen about 0% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either University or a Fachhochschule).
Etzelkofen has an unemployment rate of 1.75%. As of 2005[update], there were 25 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 10 businesses involved in this sector. 21 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 7 businesses in this sector. 36 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 15 businesses in this sector.[2]
