BW Businessworld is an Indian business magazine brand owned by media entrepreneur Anurag Batra.[1] The magazine was earlier published by the ABP Group, whose most prominent publications include The Telegraph, Anandabazar Patrika, Sananda, Anandamela and others. BW Businessworld's offices are currently located out of New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.

On 19 September 2013, the ABP Group owners, ie Ananda Publishers, sold their rights on Businessworld for an undisclosed amount to Anurag Batra (owner of exchange4media[2]) and Vikram Jhunjhunwala (who runs investment banking and asset management firm Shrine Capital).[3][4]

Businessworld magazine had been founded by ABP group in 1981.[5] In 2021, it was reported that the publication was in debt, with an enormous amount of unpaid dues to its editorial staff still pending for clearance.[6] The management also sent defamation notices to social media users who shared screenshots of their interactions between Batra and BW's ex-employees asking him to pay their salaries.[7]

However, it was also reported in May 2018 that the magazine was in debt and that salaries to staffers were unpaid even back then.[8] Subsequently, Batra announced that Businessworld had scaled up its operations and that it has successfully raised revenue.[citation needed] Businessworld's publications now include magazines such as the flagship BW Businessworld as well as BW Police World, BW Defence, BW Legal World, BW Marketing World, BW Wellbeing, BW Healthcare, and many more.

Funding and Support

BW Businessworld has been receiving generous funding from Joy Travels and Matex Tourism, which has helped it to recover and maintain its cost of operations and pay timely salaries to its staffers. Matex Tourism LLP is a travel and tourism leisure company based out of Malaysia and India and was co-founded by Niti Guglani, Zani Bin Ramlee, Amrou Bakour, and Kausar Shamim in November 2014. Niti Guglani is also the director of Joy Travels, a tourism company in Delhi.
