New Work
[edit]A valuable contribution, the Annals of the World. I made a couple of changes to Author:James Ussher, There is also an article on the w:Ussher chronology, which I think could be added to the note section of the your new work. I added the link to wikipedia in the header - here - we usually put the encyclopaedic information at that site. Most author pages have a short note and a list of works, for example Author:William Shakespeare, and readers would benefit from your longer notes in the wikipedia articles. Wikibooks has study guides for works here too, there are lots of ways to develop this. Getting this uploaded was a great idea, regards Cygnis insignis (talk) 04:47, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, w:Ussher chronology is not just about this work. The article does mention that quotes of Ussher's Annals were fabricated, an interesting fact I recalled, another reason why providing the original is a good thing. Cygnis insignis (talk) 05:05, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Did you give any thought to what you would like to do with the text in Author:James Ussher? Cygnis insignis (talk) 17:36, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Not much, but you seem to have been around longer than me. Do what you think is best. I got the text from the Biography section of Annals of the World. So it isn't like I wrote it by hand. Arlen22 (talk) 17:39, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, is it part of the original work?—then it would belong there. Cygnis insignis (talk) 17:48, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- It seems to be a biography written by the site creator. The home page gives a copyright notice, so feel it is better to blank it rather than move it somewhere else. Great work with the new project, I've done a couple of academic papers, I'll post some examples there. Regards, Cygnis insignis (talk) 18:02, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- No. To the best of my knowledge it is part of the Public Domain text. It is also included in an e-book of it that I bought on Ebay. The copyright notice said that all the text was Public Domain, and all the formatting was Copyrighted. Arlen22 (talk) 18:18, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'll get a second opinion and try to sort it out, thanks for responding to my concern. Cygnis insignis (talk) 18:31, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Academic Papers/pending
[edit]Hello, I read your comment in the discussion that I started at Wikibooks about producing refereed academic papers. As a result I have uploaded a working paper to Wikisource. The paper was published by Warwick Business School and, at the time, this Business School was the highest ranked for research in the UK. The working paper series should, therefore, fall under the classification of a "verifiable, usually peer-reviewed forum". I listed the paper under Projects Pending (and created the category of Information Systems, in order to do so). The upload is not yet complete; the diagrams are a problem and it looks as though they will have to be completely redrawn (which is something I will attend to soon). What I am not clear about is what happens next. How does the paper proceed from "Projects pending" to "Finished Projects"? Best regards. --Logicalgregory (talk) 09:14, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Basically, once they are completely put into text form, they are done. It looks like you have it done. Arlen22 (talk) 03:37, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply Arlen. This paper is indeed now done, and I have a better understanding of the procedure now. --Logicalgregory (talk) 07:47, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Look to use the Regex gadget
[edit]Turn on the gadget and you can probably get these done a bit quicker
I am presuming that you are looking to add {{anchor+}} to the numbers that start the paragraphs, if so if we look to grab the code this way
Search #1
/(\n)(\d{1,3})(\.)/g
and replace with Replace #1
$1{{anchor+|$2}}$3
This looks for a carriage return | 1 to 3 digits | period and remembers each of those components (as $n), and replaces with code and parameters. If you have four digits, then use {1,4}

- Quickly did it to Annals of the World/Age1 — billinghurst sDrewth 11:04, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! I knew there had to be a way. Where is a good resource for regex? Arlen22 (talk) 12:42, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- Lots around Google "regex cheatsheet", there is a link to some regex information from the tool, or pages like [1] — billinghurst sDrewth 14:06, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

{{Welcome tabbertab}}
[edit]Thanks for your comment. I don't know if you realise that "Welcome tabbertab" is a copy of what was the "Welcome" template until recently, and indeed the template that was used to welcome me. "Welcome" was changed dramatically and unilaterally. I am just continuing what I believe to be the status quo.--Longfellow (talk) 10:48, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know, but it could certainly use some help. I made {{Big-welcome}} a while ago to get rid of that stupid picture. Since then it was decided to redirect it to {{Welcome}}. I wish someone would fix tabbertab up and move it to {{Big-welcome}}. Arlen22 (talk) 23:37, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- Make {{Big-welcome}} what you think it should be, and if you like it I'll use it in future.--Longfellow (talk) 14:08, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

New Template
[edit]Hi, I see you've just created a {{Drop-caps}} template. Are you aware of the {{Dropinitial}} template? Beeswaxcandle (talk) 20:01, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- No, I didn't. Thanks. The one I made is nearly identical, but I think I will change it to use the current one and pictures. Arlen22 (talk) 20:07, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- Scrap that, not all the letters are there. Redirect for now. Arlen22 (talk) 20:15, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Annals of the World
[edit]Dear Arlen22,
I have just discovered that the edition of the work you added, is indeed copyrighted—but not just the "formatting". The editors Larry and Marion Pierce say they edited prose which was "the worst piece...[they had] ever seen." There is also a secondary issue of the added modern commentary they attached to some of the entries. Regardless, I don't think it's possible to separate the prose cleanup from work itself and present a non-copyrighted piece here at Wikisource.
I am listing this work at Possible Copyright Violations (WS:COPYVIO), as Wikisource doesn't include works that can't be used for reproductions of a commercial nature.
ResScholar (talk) 06:54, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
- Are you sure about this? Please check this thoroughly, as I can't at the moment, but may be able to in a couple days. Annals of the World is everywhere regarded as being in the public domain, to the best of my knowledge, and no copyright has been claimed. Furthermore, the website owner said that it was in the public domain to the best of his knowledge. I will therefore take the liberty to remove the copyvio notice from the page until further evidence to the contrary. Arlen22 (talk) 02:35, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- The burden is on you to show why it should be kept once a copyright notice has been discovered. You said you purchased an e-book of the work. According to the editor's notice of copyright that I found, the printer of that e-book was not legally permitted to print it and sell it either. I told you the work had editors. Aren't you at all curious about them, if simply to properly credit them as editors? I added back the copyright tag, and am reseting the minimum clock for the work at WS:COPYVIO to two weeks from today. If you respond within two weeks, the clock may be reset again, but if not the work will probably be deleted at the end of that period. ResScholar (talk) 06:15, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Could you tell me what the editors names are, who published the book, and what year the copyright was? Also, the owner of the site said it was in the public domain, if that helps much. Arlen22 (talk) 15:21, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Uploading open-access papers systematically
[edit]Hi there, I saw that you had signed up at Wikisource:WikiProject Academic Papers, so I thought I'd ask your opinion on scaling up the import of open-access materials, as discussed at Wikisource:Scriptorium#Scaling_up_the_import_of_open-access_sources. Thanks and cheers, -- Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) 12:42, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
