Swann's Way (1922)
by Marcel Proust, translated by Charles Kenneth Scott-Moncrieff

Volume One of Remembrance of Things Past.

C. K. Scott-Moncrieff changed the original series title, which was In Search of Lost Time (as it is published now), to a quote from Shakespeare's 30th sonnet: "When to the sessions of sweet silent thought/I summon up remembrance of things past". He also dedicated his translation to a certain E. J. C. in the form of a poem, To E. J. C., which was then impertinently published with Proust's work, though he did acknowledge that he was the author. Otherwise, it is translated exactly as Proust had written it.
