  • 5/5 A suggestion, Numbermaniac, you should be sure about the other options. Are you sure that people did not protest in Paris, or Berlin or Amsterdam? Be precise and avoid ambiguity in the questions as well. I believe you can change the wordings for the second question.

    • Yeah, good point. I went with the article, which only mentioned London. I've reworded the second question a little - hope that makes a bit more sense. Thanks for the feedback! -- numbermaniac 11:21, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Numbermaniac: " how many people were arrested by the police?" -- arrested when? Specify that. Besides, third question needs improvement.
acagastya 11:24, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Clarified a bit on both questions. The article doesn't explicitly seems to explicitly state when the arrests occurred, so I've said "in total". As Pi zero stated I've adjusted it to say "on the same day". -- numbermaniac 13:59, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • 5/5. I enjoyed this. I have to agree, the question about a European city is a little iffy. I think it may be technically true that London was the one where protests were held on that same day, but one of the sources may have mentioned other international cities that were planning protests a bit later (I'd have to reconsult the sources). --Pi zero (talk) 11:56, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • I suspect I tend to perceive a question as difficult if it involves making small quantitative distinctions. For example, to me the question about Michael Zorc was difficult because it's asking for a distinction between roles that, tbh, don't mean much to me — even though, as a reviewer, I check that sort of information during review, mostly Zorc shows up in articles making remarks that might just as reasonably have been made by a person in any of the roles offered as options on the question. Most of the numeric questions here were difficult for me because it's difficult for numeric options to differ qualitatively from each other; imagine if a question asked for a year and the choices were four consecutive years. I somewhat recall getting a year question right on one of the earlier quizzes because I remembered which decade the event had happened in. Just a thought. --Pi zero (talk) 12:40, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • True. The question for Borussia Dortmund was designed because we had many articles about their transfer news, and Zorc was mentioned many a times. What I feel, questions also lose their importance with passage of time. Would try to frame better questions next time.

Alas, the temptation to write a quiz based entirely on articles with OR in them was too much to resist, but it's actually my first time setting a quiz, and I'm afraid I haven't got my balance yet on varying the difficulty of the questions. Sorry about that. :-)  --Pi zero (talk) 12:36, 2 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Some guidelines

[edit]

There are no strict rules for what can be included in the quiz and what not, but here are some tips:

  • The title of the quiz is "World News Quiz". Try to include news that is relevant for an international audience, and that has some international importance.
  • Related to that, try to balance the questions so that no single continent or topic (like politics) dominates the news.
  • News from neglected places (like Africa) or on neglected topics (like Health) can be favoured.
  • Try to put easy questions first and hard ones at the bottom.
  • Look for images to match with the questions, and leave some space between the questions with images.
  • A good quiz is one where nobody scores 10/10 and nobody scores 0/10; try to make it fun for everyone.
