Punctuation mark

[edit]

  1. (editorial siglum, New Testament) A mark for extended readings: ⟨⸆⟩ is placed at a point in the text where some manuscripts have longer wording.

Usage notes

[edit]

The extended readings are given in the apparatus criticus.

When a second extended reading occurs in a verse, the dotted form ⟨⸇⟩ is used to distinctively mark the second instance.
