[edit]Borrowed from Arabic كِبْرِيت (kibrīt, “sulfur”), from Aramaic כִּבְּרִיתָא (kiḇrīṯā), itself from Akkadian 𒆠𒀀𒀭𒀀𒇉 (kibrītu, “sulfur, firebrand”).
