Etymology

دم (dum, tail) +‎ سنجـ (sanj-, to sway, to swing, to weigh), or with Sogdian 𐼼𐼷𐼿𐼰𐼸𐼳 (sycʾkh), 𐼼𐼷𐼿𐼰𐼸𐼸 (sycʾkk, sparrow), also contaminated into سیچغنه (sīčağna, sīčuğna, sparrow-hawk).[1]
