[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic ѥль (jelĭ), ель (elĭ), from Proto-Slavic *ȅdlь, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *edlis, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁edʰ-l-is, from *h₁edʰ-.[1][2][3] Cognate with Russian ель (jelʹ), Old Novgorodian егль (eglĭ).
