From Contraction of ekíkún, compare with Olukumi órókún, Àhàn égú, proposed to be derived from a root Proto-Yoruba *-kṹ (to kneel). See Doublet of gún (to stick out), and Doublet of kúnlẹ̀. Equivalent to e- (nominalizing prefix) +‎ kíkún (partial reduplication of kún "to kneel"), literally That which kneels
