From Arabic طَلِيعَة (ṭalīʕa, a scout; and a party of scouts), from the verb طَالَعَ (ṭālaʕa, to inspect), from the root ط ل ع (ṭ-l-ʕ), the same as طَلَعَ (ṭalaʕa, to watch).
