Etymology
[edit]From ma’ + tul, literally “with the length [of]”.
Pronunciation
[edit]Preposition
[edit]matul
- (local) along
- (temporal) throughout, during
Usage notes
[edit]- Both matul and waqt are used for “during”, but the former tends to mean that something happens for a considerable portion of the given time, whereas waqt only expresses that it coincides. Thus roughly:
- matul il-festa ― for much of the festival
- waqt il-festa ― at the time of the festival
