It might be better to use Template:etymtree instead. It's intended for a similar purpose, but more sophisticated. —CodeCat 22:04, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, I will take a look at it. I realised that I had named it fi-desc, while it should rather be named ura-desc or something similar. I wasn't able to move the page, and I happened to create a reduplicate with the name ura-desc instead. Could you delete fi-desc? I'm sorry about the inconvenience, I'm quite new to all this. - Clyde (talk) 22:08, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- It's ok, everyone starts off new. :) I've deleted
{{fi-desc}}
, but I also moved{{ura-desc}}
to{{urj-desc}}
as the code for Uralic is "urj", it fits better. I fixed the entries that use the old name. —CodeCat 22:13, 14 April 2014 (UTC)- Wonderful, thank you! And yes, you are right, I realise now that "urj" is the proper code to use. I will take a closer look at Template:etymtree soon, it appears to be really useful. See you around! - Clyde (talk) 22:21, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- Your original template might still be useful as a personal list, something that you can use to fill in the tree that
{{etymtree}}
uses. Wiktionary users often keep useful things on their user page, and I see that you've already done that. So you could use your{{urj-desc}}
template for something like that, once you've started using{{etymtree}}
. If you were to move it to a name like User:Clyde/urj empty tree, then whenever you need to create the descendant tree for a new word (to add to{{etymtree}}
), you already have a ready-made empty tree to start from. —CodeCat 22:29, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
