User talk:Acolyte of Ice
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 10:30, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I'm already quite familiar with Wiktionary, just see my user page. ;) Acolyte of Ice (talk) 10:32, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
Merry Christmas
Vandalism
[edit]I know I asked about this before but I didn't read the response and now I can't find it (not on Ice Mage talk page either). For God's sake can't you just log in and block the vandal yourself, instead of adding revision upon revision to the "list of vandals" page? Inefficient and annoying. love, Equinox ◑ 10:52, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Or to make myself more clear: if you refuse to use the tools when they are given to you: don't use the plebeian tools either. Just ignore the vandalism. Nothing worse than the back-seat moderator truly. Equinox ◑ 10:53, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- *sighs* If it's such a bother to you then fine, I'll let others deal with that shit when I'm not on my main account. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 10:58, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
obmowa
[edit]So I've only been including attested forms of Old and Middle Polish terms, which include excluding unattested nominatives! I know there's a huge debate regarding this. We need a way to make the Old Polish table work like {{pl-mid-decl-noun}}
to include a reconstructed nominative singular. Vininn126 (talk) 11:03, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- I see, fair enough. If that's the case then it is what it is. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 11:07, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
translations
[edit]Hi! How can I find help with translaitons? Archearchy (talk) 12:39, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- I feel like you might need to be more specific here...Like, are you looking for translations of a specific term or something? Acolyte of Ice (talk) 12:43, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- I look for help to check translations in the table here. Archearchy (talk) 13:08, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hmm, I'm not sure really...perhaps you could try to find users who speak the languages in question. Personally I don't think I would be confident enough to do the French even though I have studied it in the past. Acolyte of Ice (talk) 13:17, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- Is there a way that I find users who speak the languages? Archearchy (talk) 11:22, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Technically yes, there are categories like Category:User fr for French for example. they use the standard ISO codes where applicable or less frequently codes probably agreed upon by some Wiktionarians when there is a language people have decided to include as its own L2 section in entries which ISO does not have a code for. For more "major" languages like French there will be literally hundreds of users to sift through, with no way of filtering out inactives AFAIK, but I don't know of any other way really. It is also worth noting that these categories like Category:User fr have subcategories for the different levels of fluency as defined in users' Babel boxes.
