Template:examples

Examples

Usage

This template can be used on Wiktionary entry pages to create a box containing examples that illustrate the entry.

The template should usually be placed immediately after the part of speech header (for example, ===Noun===) and before the definitions in an entry. If you place the template next to the appropriate definition in a list of definitions, it will break the numbering of the definitions.

Parameters

  • |title= (optional, the title of the box. If omitted, the template defaults to “Examples”.)
  • |sense= (optional, a brief description of the relevant sense.)
  • |example= or |examples= (required, the example(s).)
  • |width= (optional, the width of the box in CSS form (e.g. 20%, 220px, 30ex, etc. The default is 35%)
  • |justify= (optional, can be left, but defaults to right.)

Examples

The following wikitext examples generate the boxes on the right:

Examples (linguistics)
  • strong tea
  • heavy drinker
  • powerful computer
{{examples|sense=linguistics|examples=
* strong tea
* heavy drinker
* powerful computer
}}
Example

All cats are animals. Ginger is an animal. Therefore, Ginger is a cat.

The fallacy fallacy would be committed if the conclusion in this statement were said to be false. Even though the reasoning in the statement is fallacious, Ginger may still be a cat.
