I assume you mean neat in the sense of a neat bourbon or neat scotch. In that case, neat means without ice, room temperature, and without any sort of mixer (such as water or cola), unadulterated, hence pure (second definition). Of course, it’s not a perfect synonym, because nobody would order a "pure bourbon" or "pure scotch"...neat is the only word that works here. —Stephen 03:50, 13 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would question the Scouse label. More Scottish, I think, in that cite. The OED (Third Edition Sept. 2007) has " Absolutely, entirely, thoroughly; very; just, really, truly.
