wonk

[edit]

Is there a term "wonk" independent of policy wonk? 71.66.97.228 17:08, 31 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

1992?

[edit]

Did this term first appear in 1992? Can we trace who first came up with or used the term? 71.66.97.228 17:08, 31 August 2012 (UTC) I can give a clue. I vividly rememeber in the first days of the first Clinton presidency, he sat in sessions with different advisors getting brought up to speed on areas of governing, and showed such a keen interest in and understanding of the ins and outs, that a prominent news commentator commented to the effect, and with impressed surprise, "He (Clinton) really is a policy wonk! He loves this stuff." If I find the source, I will come back and add it.Reply

I've added a 1988 cite. The fact that the term is in quotation marks in this usage suggests that it was a relatively new term when used then. bd2412 T 03:07, 1 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
