Rebracketing

[edit]

@CodeCat: How is the Irish word a rebracketing? —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 15:02, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

The rebracketing happened in Old Irish, from nes. On its entry, DIL says "See 5 es (RIA Dict. E), prob. the same word with apocope of initial n- due to assimilation with the article." So that places it in the same category as English adder. —CodeCat 15:10, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks. I've added that to the etymology so it's clear. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 15:25, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
