"This unfolding sofa doubles up as a bed." Is this the same as the first sense (i.e. it doubles its usefulness or capacity by becoming a bed), or should it be a new one? Equinox 20:27, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think the meanings are distinct. The example you give seems to mean "having multiple uses", whereas the current first entry seems to mean "extending the normal use of". Mindmatrix 20:26, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

While we're at it, is the poker term a special case of the first entry? There are various definitions online (eg - w:Glossary of poker terms#D, here and here). I think this one may be distinct because there's no assurance that the doubling will occur. Mindmatrix 20:26, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
