"Glided"
[edit]"Glide" is a regular verb (glide, glided, glided"); I've tried to find some justification for this entry, but the best I can do is the Collins dictionary, which cites it as Scottish dialect, and this from the O.E.D.:
"The only known use of the verb glid is in the mid 1600s. "OED's only evidence for glid is from 1647, in the writing of Henry Hexham, soldier and author."
It may have entered U.S. English , though I've found no clear confirmation of that. My guess is that uses of "glid" (especially on the Internet) are mostly mistakes, based upon the irregular verb "slide" (slide, slid, slid"). Bibliosporias (talk) 07:47, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
