To me, the audio sounds neither English nor Japanese but something in between. The prosody (pitch and timing) is phonotactically impossible in Japanese whereas the o vowel doesn't exist in GenAm.

I'm not sure how to best handle these interlingual items in general from a pronunciation standpoint. Compare also German never change a running system where we have a "German" audio that is also phonotactically impossible in German. — Fytcha〈 T | L | C 〉 22:55, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I can't speak to the Phillipines, but I think otherwise this word is used primarily by Japanese language learners who try to pronounce it as close to "日本語" as possible. With that in mind maybe using the Japanese pronunciation would be best? Aquild (talk) 03:52, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I've also added two samples for how I would pronounce this, one as though I were speaking Japanese, and one with intentionally anglicized pronunciation. I rarely use the second pronunciation, but I do hear it or similar pronunciations on occasion. Aquild (talk) 04:25, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
