[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *pr̥keh₂ (“furrow”), from Proto-Indo-European *perḱ- (“to dig”). Cognate with Proto-Germanic *furhs (“furrow”), Latin porca (“ridge, balk”), Lithuanian prapar̃šas (“ditch”), and Sanskrit पर्शान (párśāna, “chasm”).
