Etymology

[edit]

Compound of jorden (Earth) +‎ snurr (spin, rotation), likely referring to rotations around the sun, or possibly, in a more naive understanding, the spins of the planet Earth.

Noun

[edit]

jordsnurr c

  1. (informal) Synonym of år (year).
Jag är en tjej på 14 jordsnurr.
I'm a girl who's been around the sun 14 times.
    (literally, “I'm a girl who's 14 earth spins old.”)
    • 2023 September 20, Anja Franck, “Får jag fängelse både om jag anger papperslösa och om jag inte gör det? [Am I at risk of imprisonment whether I report undocumented individuals or if I don’t?]”, in Göteborgs-Posten:
Hej Tidöpartierna! Jag är en statsanställd tjej på 49 jordsnurr som i mitt arbete riskerar att, såsom ni uttrycker det, "komma i kontakt med personer som befinner sig illegalt i landet".
Hi Tidö parties! I am a civil servant girl with 49 trips around the sun who, in my work, risks, as you put it, 'coming into contact with individuals who are in the country illegally.'

Usage notes

  • The use of the term may have prepubescent and early teenager connotations.
