[edit]Etymology 2
[edit]Borrowed from German Low German Pik. Found specifically in the expression einen Pik auf jemanden haben (“to bear a grudge against someone”), a calque of German Low German enen Pik up jemand hebben, in turn borrowed from French être en pique avec quelqu’un; compare English pique. This phrase is no longer in use in German; the adjective pikiert is better-known.
