What species is the frog?
[edit]Hi Salimfadhley
I was using your frogpicture:
And I wonderet what kind of frog it was. Do you know it? Can you give us some more informations about the place you took the photo so wee can help figuring out what kind of frog it must be?
--GunnerPoulsen 22:37, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps I can help: If the picture was taken somewhere in Europe/Britain (unfortunately no information about that!), this should be a Grass Frog or Common Frog (Rana temporaria). -- Fice 12:31, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:25, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Salim,
somebody has tagged File:Frank key bring me the head of derek the dust particle.jpg as possible copyvio, whereby I became aware of it. Did you really draw this this image or did you just scan it from the book cover? As you have a lot more images related to the authors of that book on your Flickr page, may I ask, are you associated with them and do you have the rights to post these images under a free license? --Túrelio (talk) 08:35, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
- The images were licensed as creative commons by the original artist, Frank Key who is a close friend of mine. These are scans of book covers which are long long out of print. He provided me with the original paper copies to scan and publish, initially so that he could use them to make a flikr gallery on his own web-page. Later we found that having CC licensed images of all the out of print covers drove up the price of the few remaining books, since people could use them for eBay auctions. Having the book covers on Commons + Flicr in a form which anybody can use is very valuable to him. Feel free to verify, the artist's web-site is [1] --Salimfadhley (talk) 11:05, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Somehow missed the info on Frank Key CC release of that image e.g. the earlier keep result for File:Frank key unspeakable desolation.jpg. Sorry about that. Have requested to withdraw the deletion request, but you may wish to watch that discussion. Dl2000 (talk) 03:48, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

[edit]We wanted to let you know that we've used one of your pictures in a project of ours: http://litpics.tumblr.com/post/6084591278/lit-a-daughter-of-the-forest-by-evelyn-raymond
We created a computer program to generate random pairings of sentences from public domain texts and public domain / creative commons images. Some of the pictures we've selected come from the Wikipedia Commons. All the pictures we select ourselves, but the pairings and the text are random. Of these pairings that are generated, we only post the most interesting combinations.
We welcome any feedback about our site.
Thanks for sharing your pictures,
Samantha and Patrick

I noticed you've uploaded multiple images that differ only in size, and I thought I should draw your attention to a certain feature of our software. MediaWiki, the software which drives Commons and other projects like Wikipedia, is able to handle reducing the size of the images automatically. For example, even though File:Red Apple.jpg is a very large picture (2418 × 2192 pixel), MediaWiki can automatically generate thumbnails in all sizes (example: 50-pixel thumbnail).
You can include a resized thumbnail of any image in a Wikipedia article using
For a narrower image – those in upright or portrait aspect ratio – use
Please also retain all authorship information when reusing images.—Wuzur 15:15, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

- It looks like this image was deleted, hence there's not much I can do to rectify it. I suspect the deletion was unwarranted given that last time I saw it, the pic was identified as my own work. --Salimfadhley (talk) 15:32, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry, that was my mistake. I deleted the image as a duplicate of the older File:Stewart Lee.jpg. I haven't noticed that you are the Flickr user that uploaded the photo originally, which was then transferred to Wikimedia Commons by another user. —Wuzur 16:30, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Haley McGee.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File:Kate shemirani poster 12 september 2020.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
