Image:Louvre fragments liste offrandes.JPG

[edit]

Loicwood 09:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images in categories

[edit]

Hi Neith,

Please don't include an image in a category if it's already included in its subcategory. Image:Nefertiti vieja.jpg was already in the Nefertiti category, which is a subcategory of Category:18th dynasty, which is a subcategory of Category:Ancient Egypt, so it is enough to include it only in the Nefertiti category. Otherwise all the other categories become too crowded. Alensha 14:06, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Hetepheres' funerary items

[edit]

Hello there:

Thank you for noticing the pics I have posted from my recent trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I took several hundred photos of just about everything of note in the galleries when I visited the place this past Sunday, so I do have some pics of some of Hetepheres' funerary items. Unfortunately the lighting in the room that they are held in is gloomy, and there is no flash photography allowed, so not all of the images turned out. I believe I have good (if not great) images of her reconstructed bed with headrest and her palanquin/carrying chair. If the quality is okay will try to post them this evening -- keep an eye on my gallery page for updates to it.

I envy you having been to Egypt — your photos are great! I would suggest that in terms of categorizing them, if you can slot something under a particular pharaoh, do that instead of slotting it to the dynasty it belongs to (such as the various pyramid shots you have). I only mention this because they are more likely to been referenced on Wikipedia if they are in that sub-category rather than one level up at the dynasty level.

Thank you also for taking the time to properly create the [Category:Egyptian antiquities in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston], as I hadn't gotten that far myself as yet.

Cheers! Captmondo 19:53, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to let you know that I have gotten around to posting the two photos I took of Queen Hetepheres' funerary equipment. You can find them in my updated listing of images from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, or more directly at this link: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Hetepheres.
Thanks also for re-tagging your own material to make it more specific to the pharaoh, which ought to make things easier to find and use.
Cheers! Captmondo 19:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't write such long texts in category pages. Long texts should go to Wikipedia, this is Commons and it is for multmedia files. Furthermre, Category:Serapis already has its text. Thank you very much. --User:G.dallorto 16:54, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your "if you want to know more clik here" solution is excellent! Best wishes. --User:G.dallorto 19:35, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Psametik III and Ramesses XI

[edit]

Hi, thank you. Those pictures of reliefs are taken from the Temple of Amun in Karnak. I have focused to colect as many as possible rare reliefs of obscure pharaohs so that the articles on Wikipedia can have a good look. Unfortunately some users from the wiki commons have delited my pictures of Simun, Unas...etc. because they do not believe in their authencity, and spent most of their time deliting things rather than uploading(unfortunately). I am looking forward to uploading some pictures from my trip to Egypt.

Cheers! Crucifixion

Changing the name of the image

[edit]

Is it possible to change the name of the image I have uploaded because there has been some problem while putting them in the articles. For example; I have been putting an image of Ptolemy XII smiting enemies in the article about this ruler, but instead of putting the right one, the image that appeared in the article was some other picture with the same name. Crucifixion

Hello Neithsabes. You are right. Can make the changes. A greeting --JMCC1 20:36, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Native name

[edit]

Hi, Sebi. Noting the fact that COM:LP is still a proposal, I see no harm in reverting back to the French name. Best wishes. --Meno25 (talk) 14:10, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I don't think that adding the Arabic name besides the French/English name is a good idea. I don't think that the page title will be rendered correctly in this case because of the bracket. I guess that the best solution would be to translate image descriptions to Arabic. I will work on them when I finish uploading the rest of free images from Arabic Wikipedia. Thank you, Sebi, for your message. --Meno25 (talk) 19:47, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Louvre statue

[edit]

Dear Sebi, Do you know if this statue in the Louvre Museum belongs to Psamtik I or II? Image:Egypte louvre 038.jpg It is used for Psamtik I on some pages but the statue description just says 'Psamtik makes an offering to Osiris.' Since you have been to the Louvre, you may know the answer. PS: I was the person who downloaded the images of the tomb of Takelot I and Shoshenq III at Tanis. Thank You from Canada --Leoboudv (talk) 19:49, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for your reply Sebi. It is as I feared...there is currently no Commons image of Psamtik I sadly which is very strange for a king who ruled Egypt for 54 years. I am glad you enjoyed the images of Takelot I, Osorkon II, Shoshenq III and Hornakht. J. Bodworth at egyptarchive agreed to look through his collection of images at Tanis and download a few images of his visit there in return. Today, no one is allowed to take any photos in the Museums of Egypt or even the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. --Leoboudv (talk) 08:16, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • PS: You cannot trust user Crucifixon's images. He has been warned several times for copy vio: [1] I think his image of Psametik III Image:Psametih III.jpg is from here but I am not 100% certain. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:31, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New image

[edit]

I managed to get someone on flicker who took pictures in the Museum of Cairo in 2004 to license this image under CC BY 2.0 with no Commercial use restrictions. If the photo had a Commercial use restriction, it CANNOT be placed on Commons. The image is of Sheshonq II: Image:Sheshonq II mask2004.jpg It is now on Commons. I will ask an Admin to delete Crucifixion's image of Psamtik III and will use yours instead on his article. I never saw your image on Commons. By the Way, the SCA's position on the photo ban is given here: [2] Basically too many tourists were taking photos in the small crowded Museum and threatening the safety of the museum objects. I think there is a similar photo ban in the Louvre for the area around the Mona Lisa. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:00, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you Neithsabes for that image of Psamtik I. I will wait for a few days because my friend Captmondo just visited the British Museum on Monday to take some pictures before he returns home to Toronto, Canada. If he was not able to take a photo of an object of Psamtik I, I will certainly use your image. Of course, even if he has an image,I would be more than happy to use two images in his article because Psamtik I was a very important Egyptian king. I hope you will use the Commons picture of Sheshonq II above which I placed on Commons. It is very special indeed. By the Way, is this person really king Psamtik II: Image:Egypte louvre 037.jpg. It is used for the French Wikipedia article on Psamtik II but the photo seems to be a copy of this picture by you Image:Louvre 122007 48.jpg. But in your picture, you say it is of an official/dignatary who bears the cartouche of Psamtik II. (ie. it is not Psamtik II himself) So, I am a bit confused, Regards from Metro Vancouver, Canada --Leoboudv (talk) 19:32, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you Neithsabes for your comments on that Louvre statue. It is very strange...but life is not always simple sadly. I see you have made good use of the image of Sheshonq II. Good for you. BTW, here is another 'picture' by Crucifxon which is also copyright: [3] It is actually from a 2001 BBC article. I agree with you: I wish one could pay some money to take some photos but in truth the Cairo museum is small, overcrowded and just old! If Egypt was rich like France or the US, it could certainly build many more museums--instead of keeping its artifacts in hundreds of warehouses throughout the country where no one can see them--and then people could take photos of the treasures of Tanis and replace this image. There is no more of this king on Commons, so I will ignore it...but this is indeed an unhappy situation. Regards --Leoboudv (talk) 09:20, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for the notice. I just hope they do indeed allow photographs in their new museum. There is perhaps another solution. If you a student of Egyptology, you may be able to take photos in the Cairo museum if you write to the SCA asking for official permission according to this [4] This story is 3 years old and perhaps they may or may not allow it; I don't know. It may be worth a try. I definitely cannot since I am not an Egyptologist--just someone interested in Egyptology. My real job is in real estate appraisal. Egyptology is a hobby of mine, like international politics. Thank You for all you help, Neithsabes and your pictures! --Leoboudv (talk) 19:27, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Did you see this notice: [5] All 2-Dimensional 'reproduction' images are now allowed on Commons. It was from Village Pump on Commons here and seems rather important. --Leoboudv (talk) 21:35, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I thought it was Thutmose I because Thanatosimi (Thomas) was a good Wiki Project Ancient Egypt member. Nowadays, he has retired because he was tired of all the nonsense and arguments on Wikipedia which is a pity. Many good contributors accidentally type the wrong image heading for pictures such as this: Image:Neferefre Abusir Pyramid.jpg. It is actually the pyramid of Neferirkare, not Neferefre. I corrected the error in the edit portion. I asked an Admin about it and he told me that as long as I clarify that it was Neferirkare Kakai's pyramid, there is no need to delete it. As for that image of Thutmose I, I will likely remove it from the article on Thutmose I in a few days time but I won't delete it--just clarify that it is actually Thutmose III instead. Moreover, I don't even know the book source for that picture. PS: I have used your image for the article on Psamtik I. Thank you--great photo. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:18, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy category corrections

[edit]

Hello there:

Just wanted to say "thanks" for the work you did on adding/fixing the categories for some of the Ancient Egyptian museum images as I was continuing to upload them.

I have a couple hundred photos from my trip their earlier today, and plan on posting more when time allows. Please visit my gallery at User:Captmondo/gallery for future updates if interetsed.

I also ought to add that I admire the extensive work you have done on the Ancient Egyptian images from the Louvre. I may adopt the scheme you did by noting the rooms that the objects are in, but that can wait for another time.

Cheers! Captmondo (talk) 23:15, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

I see your point. The cartouche reads as Menkheperre, not Akheperkare. --Leoboudv (talk) 02:38, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Excellent !

[edit]

Glad you like the images! I actually hadn't noticed that particular fine detail until you mentioned it, and I can't say that I've ever seen anything else like that -- I wonder just how common (or uncommon) having the name as part of the tail of the serekh figure (rather than just *in* it) is.

Have just finished uploading a few more pics that I took from the British Museum. One of them is of a wooden mummy case that belonged to the pharaoh "Intef". Question is, *which* Intef? The caption that accompanied the mummy case didn't say, and neither does the book I picked up that briefly references it. Can you properly categorize that one?

There's plenty more to come! Cheers! Captmondo (talk) 13:10, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Psusennes

[edit]

Dear Neithsabes, Thank you about that comment on Setnakht and Twosret's royal tomb. Someone has kindly allowed an image of this king to be placed on WikiCommons: Image:Psusennes I mask by Rafaèle.jpg Finally, there is a decent picture of this king. I wonder if you knew about the Valenciennes exposition in France where you live? --Leoboudv (talk) 21:14, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank You, I saw your second note on Meresankh III. The people who mislabel the flickr images drive me crazy! --Leoboudv (talk) 21:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for the comments on that French exhibit. On the Intef issue, I prefer to use a king's prenomen like Sekhemre Wepmaat Intef, Nebkheperra Intef and, finally, Sekhemre-heruhirmaat Intef. This immediately clears up any confusion. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:17, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your reconstruction images are amazing! --Mav (talk) 02:02, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meresank

[edit]

Is this really the sarcophagus of Meresank II: Image:MeresankhII-Sarcophagus MuseumOfFineArtsBoston.png a daughter of Khafra? I thought Queen Meresankh III was the wife of Khafra. If so, Meresank II should not be Khafra's daughter. --Leoboudv (talk) 05:43, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do you know if there are any images of Meresankh III's tomb or statues. Just curious. I don't see any on Commons. I plan in future to write an article on her since her tomb was extremely well decorated for a 4th dynasty tomb. --Leoboudv (talk) 10:24, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello there -- to answer this question, take a look at the photo I took of the accompanying caption for this object at the museum, which you can view directly at: http://www.captmondo.com/MeresankhII/P3256980.JPG. For some of the other raw photos I took of it (and other descriptive captions translating its hieroglyphics) go to: http://www.captmondo.com/MeresankhII/.
Note the part that says she is "not be confused with her niece, Meresankh III". ;-)
I see from the caption that it mentions that Meresankh III is represented by a "pair statue" of her with her mother. I didn't upload them at the time to the Commons since I wasn't that happy with the quality of the pictures I took (I so wish I had my "good" camera back then!). Will clean the two pics I have of it up and will upload them to the Commons shortly. Cheers! Captmondo (talk) 16:10, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Mesha stela

[edit]

Dear Sebi, thank you for the reply on that crown. It is certainly a difficult issue.

  • On another matter, I wonder....you live in Paris and have been to Louvre haven't you? Have you ever taken any 'good' photos of the Mesha stela for its article: [8] I have seen a few images of this stela on flickr but they are not freely licensed and cannot be placed on Commons. I also don't know the flickr owners. But from what I have seen and read, it is supposedly displayed in the Louvre. So, you may have seen it. A good new colour image is probably superior to this old black and white photo of it: Image:Mesha stele.jpg You can always call your image Meshastela.jpg or Meshastela1.jpg like I occasionally do? What do you think? --Leoboudv (talk) 09:07, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks Sebi. I thought it was strange that you did not take a picture of it since you have many Louvre images. This is one image of the stela on flickr and the photographer says it is from the Louvre: [9] But the license is not free--for Non-Commercial use only...so it cannot be placed on Commons. --Leoboudv (talk) 22:12, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes...I know the Louvre is huge. I apologise that I had the idea that you knew where everything was. Well I wish you the best of luck in finding where the stela by Mesha is kept when you are free. Regards, FB --Leoboudv (talk) 23:57, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you can provide a better description for this image in English or French, please do so. I think it is a triad: Image:Triad of Ramesses II with Amun and Hathor.jpg I don't know how to catalogue this unique image. By the way, is this flickr image needed on Commons: [10] ? If the answer is yes, what name would you propose for it: statue of Tutankhamun usurped by Horemheb, statue of Horemheb, statue perhaps by Tutankhamun or what? Its very hard to name. --Leoboudv (talk) 05:18, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for your help. Next time I will say Ramesses II with 2 deities since Hathor and Mut look so similar. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:31, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dear Sebi, Just wanted to thank you for your help in cataloguing my Egyptian images. I doubt I will upload many future Egyptian images since I have uploaded all those which were freely licensed from flickr. (maybe only 1 or 2 images on occasion) I have uploaded many good ones onto Commons already. Unfortunately, there are no Egyptian museums where I live in Western Canada. BTW, good luck on taking a picture of Mesha's stele in the future. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:37, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sebi. Do you read many old books on Ancient Egypt? Any idea where this old image was first published in: Image:ThutmoseI.jpg I don't know the source or author of the image. Maybe its Lepsius but I'm not sure --Leoboudv (talk) 21:23, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sitdjehuti

[edit]

Are there any other categories for this new image: Image:Queen Sitdjehuti's sarcophagus in Munich.jpg? I added only one There is also this image of an Egyptian temple at leiden: Image:Temple of Taffeh in Leiden by Paul Garland.jpg The second image is very hard to catalogue. --Leoboudv (talk) 20:16, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kalabsha

[edit]

Dear Sebi, Do you know who was the king who erected this stela at Kalabsha: [12]? It is very well preserved and in excellent condition. I don't know if Kalabsha was erected in Ptolemaic times--it is a rather obscure temple--or even in the New Kingdom era under Ramesses II. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:46, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wadi Es-Sebua

[edit]

Dear Sebi, I have contacted the flickr image owner of that stela from Kalabsha but unfortunately, he seems to be away and has not changed the image license. So I cannot use it at present. I just created a small article on Beit el-Wali and was wondering if French WP has an article on the Wadi es-Sebua temple? Do you know? Just curious. --Leoboudv (talk) 06:11, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have now found the French WP article on it here. Unfortunately, I will have to struggle to translate it into English with google translate since my French is poor. It is a long article, too. (In contrast, your English is very good!) I only manage to translate the easiest first chapter: Wadi es-Sebua Would you like to help translate the rest of the French article into English here...just this once? Many words and sentences are not understandable when placed through babelfish or google translate.
  • BTW, I managed to get another image for Beit el-Wali: Image:Beit el-Wali temple relief in Nubia.jpg But translating the long article on Wadi es-Sebua is very hard. I have to go now as its 3 AM here in Canada. --Leoboudv (talk) 08:02, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

another image

[edit]

Dear Sebi, I have asked an admin to delete that bad duplicate image. On another issue, do you think that this [13] is from the Temple of Amada. It is either from the Temple of Amada or Derr. I read in an article that the reliefs from Amada temple still have very bright colours. The photographer confusingly writes: 'Derr Rock Temple Amada.' I think its is indeed Amada, not Derr. I believe the cartouche reads as 'Menkheperre' for Thutmose III....and Thutmose III, Amenhotep II and Thutmose IV built at Amada whereas Derr was built by Ramses II. Do you agree?

Sitamun?

[edit]

Sebi, Do you what this object is...is it a crown: [18] ? Was Sitamun Amenhotep III's sister? I don't even know where it was discovered personally. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:34, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • By the way, is this a stone block relief from a temple which depicts Amenemhet I? [19] I don't know its situation except that it is in the Met museum of NY. Regards --Leoboudv (talk) 04:05, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dear Sebi, are you certain this crown/diadem is that of one of the 3 foreign wives of Thutmose III. I spoke to the image owner and he says it is Sitamun's: [20] The image is now licensed freely but I don't know what title to give to it. Please help. --Leoboudv (talk) 22:16, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's OK Sebi. Unfortunately, I have to explain the error to John on flckr. But we are all human. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:38, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr images

[edit]

Dear Sebi, These 2 images are freely licensed and can be placed on Commons: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalbera/2872175056/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalbera/2865505911/

  • Do you think it is good to place them on Commons? The Aten object looks very interesting--but I am not certain if it is a stela and I do not see any other image of it on Commons. Both images are both from the Museo Egizio in Turin. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:16, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you Sebi. I took your advice: Image:Stela of the Great temple of Aten at Akhetaten2008.jpg (If the name Aten is also enclosed in a cartouche, please feel free to enter this information in this image) Flickr is wonderful because you can pictures of objects from many museums...but the best pictures there are not freely licensed and some flickr owners don't bother to respond to my inquiries about changing a license. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:21, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Permission to use images

[edit]

Dear Neithsabes I am currently writing a book on Ancient Egypt and I was would love to use some of your images that you have uploaded. Would it be possible if I may use the images in my publication. Of course you would still own the copyright to the images and I would credit you in the publication. I do hope this is ok. Yours truly Aaron Watson.--Ajwatson82 (talk) 07:19, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two Images

[edit]

Here are 2 images which you may wish to catalogue and use Sebi: Image:The Heqanakht letters.jpg and Image:Sarcophagus of Horkhebit2007.jpg I don't know if Horkhebit was important in his time but his sarcophagus is beautiful. --Leoboudv (talk) 02:16, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Huwiki images

[edit]
  • Ay? Sebi do you know if this is really a portrait of pharaoh Ay of XVIII dynasty: [21] ? I notice some of this person's images are tagged wrong like this: [22] in the Louvre which is likely Akhenaten if I am correct rather than Smenkhkare. --Leoboudv (talk) 09:20, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • By the way, is this a sacred alabaster barque chapel of Amenhotep I at Karnak: [23]? I knew only of a chapel of Amenhotep I at Abydos but according to my copy of Nicolas Grimal's A History of Ancient Egypt, Amenhotep III reused Amenhotep I's barque chapel at Karnak as fill for the third pylon . --Leoboudv (talk) 06:01, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Finally, is this Nefertari, the wife of Ramesses II or the great royal wife of Thutmose IV: [24] The image is used on huwiki for Nefertari, the 18th dynasty royal wife of Thutmose IV but I don't know if the identification is correct. --Leoboudv (talk) 19:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank You Sebi on your comments. I have now placed on Commons the image of the alabaster chapel of Amenhotep I....I never knew it even existed until now! As for the Commons photo, you are correct--it is indeed Ankhenesneferibre, the last God's Wife of Amun in the Saite period. There is a photo of it on page 246 of the Complete Royal Families of Ancient Egypt by Aidan Dodson and Dyan Hilton. I did not make the connection...until now. I will ask an Admin to rename it. Thank You again. By the way, do you have a picture of Queen Ahmose Nefertari's statue here in the Louvre: [25] I have seen other images of this statue on flickr but they are not licensed freely. Just curious --Leoboudv (talk) 03:05, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ahmose Nefertari

[edit]

Thank you for your comment on that funerary mask. It is good that you have 1 picture of Khaemwast's funerary mask. It was not a good picture anyway on huwiki. By the way, do you have this image of Ahmose Nefertari's statue in the Louvre: [27] I have seen other images of this statue on flickr but they are not licensed freely. If not, I can move this huwiki image to Commons.

  • By the way, I hope one day you can take a good color picture of Mesha's stele in the Louvre like this: [28] I had asked the photographer on flickr if she will allow it to be placed on Commons but she refused my request. As you can see the license is 'all rights reserved' which means it cannot be used on Commons. Please reply...especially on the statue of Ahmose Nefertari. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:42, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Do you know who is the king in this stela from the Vatican: [29]? It can be placed on Commons...if you like. --Leoboudv (talk) 09:07, 31 October 2008 (UTC) Thanks for your help on that stela Sebi. I did not realise how important it was. I have now uploaded it here. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:08, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Which Intef? Dear Sebi. Is this the coffin of Sekhemre Wepmaat Intef: Image:Louvre 122006 050.jpg? Captmondo has said this other image in the Louvre is the coffin of Sekhemre Heruhirmaat Intef: Image:Louvres-antiquites-egyptiennes-img 2848-CloseUp.png So, I think the flickr image is that of Sekhemre Wepmaat Intef? Is this correct? The question of which king's coffin belongs to which Intef is very confusing. --Leoboudv (talk) 05:22, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank You Sebi for all your help in replying to my question on the Intefs and in categorising my new Commons images. I have uploaded 212 flickr images to Commons and placed several good images for Horemheb, Akhenaten, Seti II, Psusennes and Amenemope on Commons. I will probably upload a few more images in future to Commons but will be slowing down now. By the way, my 2 images of MK jewellry was used for Senusret II's article here: [30] With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:12, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Amenemope

[edit]

Do you want this image of Amnmope's mask placed on Commons or not: [31]? It was displaced at the 2007/2008 'Isis and the Plumed Serpent' art exhibit in Monterrey, Mexico. I can place it on Commons because the license is "cc by sa 2.0." But there is already one very good image of this king's mask on Commons: Image:Mask of Amenemope1.jpg Its your decision. Regards from Canada --Leoboudv (talk) 10:49, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes...that is what I thought too. Most of the pictures by this person on flickr from the exhibit here (there are 2 pages) are poor in terms of quality with lots of camera flash and poor framing. The only good one I used was the KV55 vulture. Well, good night Sebi. Its 3 AM in Western Canada
  • PS: Here is an image you may wish to catalogue: Image:EgyptianScribe.jpg Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 11:01, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Egypt lion

[edit]

Dear Sebi,

  • Do you know what lion goddess is this TIPE object: [32] If it is a lion, then it should not be Bastet...since this is a cat. Secondly, did you receive my E-mail? Just curious. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:20, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for the reply. I may or may not place it on Commons since I can't positively identify it...but it was a good try. By the way, the heart scarab is Hatnofer' as this official Met Museum web site says: [33] I used the Commons image for this article Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:32, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One final comment

[edit]

Dear Sebi,

  • I managed to moved this Hu wiki image of the 19th dynasty statue of Ahmose Nefertari to Commons: [34]
  • And Keith (Captmondo) managed to crop and improve the picture since he has Photoshop image software. This is the last image I can get of a statue/stela from the Louvre. I have used it here: [35] You can use it for the french wikipedia article of this Queen if you wish.
  • I hope that one day you can place a good color image of the Mesha stela. It is impossible to get a good image here of the stela from flickr to Commons...which is a pity. There is a single bad Commons image with lots of camera flash: Image:Mesha Stele (511142469).jpg It is almost impossible to see the writing on the document. This angle of the stela in this picture here seems best--little flash and you can see the text: [36] But the person won't license it freely. So, What can I say---C'est la vie! Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:16, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sebi,

  • Thank you for the kind comments on the Ahmose Nefertari statue. I may place some flickr images here in future but it will be very few. I have placed many of the best ones here...that I wanted. By the way, this coffin in the BM belongs to Nebkheperre Intef: Image:WoodenCoffinOfIntef-BritishMuseum-August21-08.jpg I have an academic article in my hand by a respected German Egyptologist which states that Nebkheperre's coffin catalogue number is EA 6652. The scholar also notes that other objects by Nebkheperre Intef are in the British Museum. So, there is no doubt that the coffin above is Nebkheperre's. I have told Captmondo about my discovery here by private E-mail.
  • The only question now is which of these 2 coffins in the Louvre belongs to Sekhemre Wepmaat and which belongs to Sekhemre Heruhirmaat. You say that this coffin is Sekhemre Heruhirmaat:
  • Image:Louvre 122006 050.jpg

whereas Captmondo says this is Sekhemre Heruhirmaat:

I can only say that one of you must be wrong here. Perhaps the Louvre museum description is more precise. Until this mystery is solved, the 2 pictures cannot be used in Wikipedia's articles on these 2 Intef kings sadly. By the way, thanks for your promise to take a good picture of the Mesha stela. I appreciate that. With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:25, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is another possible solution: they could *both* be the coffins of that particular pharaoh, the smaller once nested within the larger. I have never been to the Louvre but while perusing Ancient Egyptian images I found this (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Louvres-antiquites-egyptiennes-img_2848.jpg) image from Rama, where you see the two coffins side-by-side. As for the smaller of the two coffins, I was simply going by the description on the Louvre Web site (http://cartelen.louvre.fr/cartelen/visite?srv=car_not_frame&idNotice=19053) for the image of the coffin that I touched up (and which Neithsabes managed to take a much better overall picture of at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Louvre_122006_051.jpg). So there may in fact be no conflict if both coffins belong to the same pharaoh. Unfortunately the Louvre Web site does seem to mention anything about the other coffin. Captmondo (talk) 00:17, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dear Sebi, I hope when you visit the Louvre, you can clarify which coffin belongs to which Intef there. Both Captmondo and you are very good at noting museum labels...which is why I don't know which sarcophagus belong to Sekhemre Heruhirmaat and which to Sekhemre Wepmaat. By the way, since we now have a good image of the statue of Ahmose Nefertari, you don't need to take that picture at the Louvre, just a good picture of the Mesha stele...perhaps from the 45 degree angle I showed you. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:08, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sekhemre Heruhirmaat

[edit]

Dear Sebi, Is this image description correct: [37] The description by the photographer states that these objects are the "lid and coffin of king Antef (Sékhemrê Hérouhermaât). 17th dynasty." If this is corrrect, then they both belong to Sekhemre Heruhirmaat...and not to Sekhemre Wepmaat at all. Which means there is no picture of Sekhemre Wepmaat's coffin and sarcophagus lid on Commons. Am I right? Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 10:47, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes Sebi. It looks like the next time you visit the Louvre, you will have a number of things to take care of. I thought Sekhemre Wepmaat's coffin was in the Louvre...but perhaps I was wrong. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:30, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Happy 2009

[edit]

Happy New Year to you to Sebi! I'm afraid I am not well...as I mentioned to you in my private E-mail. Now that I have uploaded 6 images on Persian art in 2009 to Commons, I will be taking a break from Commons. I would just like to thank you for creating this image for Djedkare Isesi's English WP article:

Hello, Neithsabes!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Sérapéum

[edit]

Jastrow (Λέγετε) 16:49, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ramesses XI

[edit]

Dear Sebi,

Have you ever taken an image of Ramesses XI in your visits to the Louvre or to Egypt? I just ask this because the only other photo of Ramesses XI (by Crucifixion) has been deleted as a copyright violation. The Admins reviewed all his photos and only kept images which they knew were taken by him. All the low resolution ones were judged as likely copyvios and deleted. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:12, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: If you can take a picture of an ostracon showing a likeness of Ramesses XI, that is more than fine. I'm glad you liked the image of Siamun's cartouche before Ankhfenmut. If you want more images from the University collection of Pennsylvania, you should go through Hans photos on flickr here. Other photographers may refuse to change the license on a photo since everyone is different. Personally, I don't contact Hans too much for photos today. I contacted him on Siamun because there was only a poor quality sphinx photo for him on WikiCommons. I can ask for maybe 2 or 3 pictures...and not more. Hans must make a living too and cannot license them all copyright free. With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:22, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Thank you for the 3photos of Mesha's stela. It is much better than this photo which is of high resolution but has so much 'glare' in it that I can barely see the document:

BTW, I guess you know this but I placed many new photos of native Indian artifacts on my userpage here. Perhaps you have seen them. (As they say, they don't make history today). Best Regards from Metro Vancouver, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:23, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photos du temple de Khonsou

[edit]

Bonsoir Asavaa

Asavaa (talk) 21:57, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Asavaa (talk) 20:07, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Asavaa (talk) 20:00, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Dear Sebi/Neithsabes,

I haven't uploaded any new quality Ancient Egyptian images since those 2 quality images of Tefnakht's stela and Pedubast's torso. My University in Vancouver, Canada, has no Egyptain art--only European art and native art...and a little Asian art. I visited its Museum on August 18 and took some pictures below. Its probably not your taste but its high quality photos.

I noticed you've uploaded File:Louvre 042007 14.jpg and I thought I should draw your attention to a common error. Please give uploaded files meaningful names. Otherwise they are difficult to track and it is hard to tell what the file is about without actually looking at it. I suggest you rename your image with an intuitive name that describes the file itself. Thanks, and happy editing!

Dear Neithsabes,

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you for your work in making pictures available on Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to use one of your photos in a publication I am working on at the moment, and since it will be produced by a charity organization my royalties are not large (and would quickly be swallowed up if I had to pay for images).

My publisher, however, has requested that I confirm with you that you are willing to give me permission to use the following:

Saq Horemheb 08.jpg (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Saq_Horemheb_08.jpg)

Are you fine with this?

Once again, thanks for your work and I look forward to hearing back from you. My e-mail address is achalmers@adelaide.tabor.edu.au

All the best,

Dr Aaron Chalmers Senior Lecturer in Biblical Studies

According to this, this crown in the Leiden Museum dates to the 17th dynasty and came from one of the royal tombs at Dra Abu el-Naga...probably from Nubkheperre Intef's burial. Feel free to add other cats to it or to use it on French wikipedia. Sadly, there is almost no treasures dating to the 17th dynasty on Wikicommons. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:38, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is this the sarcophagus of pharaoh Antef Sékhemrê Oupmaât (Wepmaat Intef) or pharaoh Antef Sékhemrê Hérouhermaât? The description says 'Sékhemrê Hérouhermaât' but there are two different sarcophaguses for this king in the Louvre...so one must be for Sékhemrê Oupmaât, I think. Perhaps this is the one if the description can be corrected. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:50, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I probably forgot to change that when I uploaded the file. Thank you for that. Neithsabes (talk) 23:08, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

17th dynasty crown at Leiden

[edit]
  • Dear Neithsabes,

Yes, I did notice the article too about the fact that the Leiden 17th dynasty crown is associated with the burial of Nubkheperre Intef's crown. Thanks for your comments, however. --Leoboudv (talk) 21:49, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This French Senet wiki article

[edit]

Perhaps there is a better image to replace the Senet game board image used in the French wiki article...which is slightly out of focus from this category here. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:46, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is also a valued image of Semerkhet here:

New Commons images/photos

[edit]

Dear Sebi,

There are new images on Wikicommons for Ancient Egypt by user Iry-hor. You are invited to use some or all of these images on French wikipedia if you wish.

There is also an image gallery for the treasures found in the daughter of king Auibre Hor's tomb Here Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:41, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Comment: I forgot to mention this unique image which is not used in French wiki:
  • File:Djehuti 2.jpg
