Description
English: Illustration of a vane signal mounted on a signal tower, used by the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad in the 19th century. The vanes at the top of the tower were painted in several different colors, signifying danger (stop), caution, and safety (proceed). The vanes were illuminated at night by lanterns.
