English: Red alga Ceramium tenuicorne under epifluorescence microscope. The yellow fluorescence is caused by the proteinic pigment called R-phycoerythrin, which under normal lighting conditions appears red and gives the characteristic color to many red algal (Rhodophyta) species. |
