English: The photo shows two sets of railway tracks: the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) and the Ottawa Electric Railway (OER). The CPR operated across Canada whereas the OER only operated between Ottawa and the Britannia Amusement Park. The footbridge allowed OER passengers to safely cross the CPR tracks. An electric pump (75lbs pressure) in the pumphouse pushed water from the lake into the 65,000 gallon, steel water tank. The water tank was dismantled in 1961. Water from the tank served the park and nearby residences; water was gravity-fed into showers, etc. via pipes. The furthest extent of the OER roundabout is now Greenview Ave. |
