Object history
Deutsch: Der im Jahre 1336 als "Eltze" genannte Ort gehörte während der Feudalzeit zur Grafschaft Virneburg. In der Ostwand des Chorabschlusses der Kapelle ist ein spätgotischer Gewölbeschlussstein eingelassen, der das Wappen von Virneburg trägt: In Gold 7 (4:3) rote Rauten. Sie sind in den oberen Schildteil aufgenommen. Der Ortsname Oberelz geht zurück auf die Lage des Ortes am Oberlauf des Elzbaches, der bei Moselkern in die Mosel mündet. Als Hinweis hierauf steht der Wellenschnitt. Kirchen- und Ortspatron ist nach Mitteilung des Bürgermeisters St. Nikolaus. Sein Attribut, drei goldene Kugeln, stehen im hinteren Schildteil.
