Summary
[edit]DescriptionBritish Peacekeepers in Mali.jpg |
English: The UK remains committed to supporting the UN’s peacekeeping missions around the world and, as part of this, have deployed 300 troops to The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). Op Newcombe is the name of the UK commitment to that mission. The UK Task Force, primarily drawn from the Light Dragoons and Royal Anglians, but supported by specialist trades from across the Armed Forces, is configured for reconnaissance. Using a range of vehicle including Jackals and Coyotes, their initial task is to understand the operating environment in the area around their base in Gao so that they are well placed to support the UN mission. The UK Task Force provides a highly specialised capability for the UN, conducting patrols to gather intelligence and engage with the local population to help the UN respond to threats from violent extremism. Op RATEL WEST was the latest mission that the LRRG task group deployed on with the UN. The task group deployed out in full. These photos show the Light Dragoon Sub unit in action. The Task group spent 9 days deployed in an area the size of Belgium to find and understand as much about the human and physical terrain in the area to the South West of Gao. This was all to support the UN and provide them with valuable information to achieve the overall mission in country. |
