Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 13 cm; Weight: 10 g; Identification: The blue waxbill has a brown back and crown, distinctive blue rump, face, breast and tail; Habitat: Woodlands, grasslands; Diet: Omnivore: seeds, insects; Reproduction: The bird can breed anytime during the year. Nests are built on the sides of a tree or bush and are made into a grass ball. Females lay 4-5 white eggs, incubation last 11-12 days, and both parents rear the young for approximately three weeks; Social Structure: Groups of up to 50 birds often form; Behavior: Blue waxbills are ground-feeding birds; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The blue waxbill is very tame and inquisitive and is usually the first bird to arrive when the alarm call of another bird is imitated.
