Description |
English: In 1920, the Seattle Parks Department opened an automobile tourist camp overlooking Green Lake, in what was then the north end of Woodland Park. The number of campers peaked in 1924, with 12,000 families or groups using the inexpensive facilities.
This photographic postcard, probably made in the 1920s, shows the tourist camp at Seattle's Woodland Park. High costs of maintenance and problems in policing caused the city to close the camp in 1928. The camp reopened in 1933, during the Great Depression. The city hired the unemployed to clear trails in Woodland and other parks, and the camp may have housed some of these workers.
