Welcome to the Wikimedia Commons portal for Wiki Loves Monuments!
Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) is a public photo competition around cultural heritage monuments, organized by Wikimedia chapters and groups. In 2010 it was organised in the Netherlands, and was followed by a Europe-wide 2011 edition. Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 went global and was organised in several countries around the world, including Canada, Chile, India, Panama, Ghana, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa and the United States.
The aim of the contest is to ask the general public—readers and users of Wikipedia, photographers, hobbyists, etc.—to take pictures of cultural heritage monuments and upload them to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia.
Read more about how you can participate in the photo contest on the website of the contest.
Why is my country not participating in 2015?
Wiki Loves Monuments is organized in a federative manner, which means the organization depends on volunteers in each country. Enthusiastic local teams get in contact with heritage organizations and authorities, create monuments lists in Wikipedia, contact partners and sponsors, and motivate the general public to participate.
If your country did not participate in 2015, maybe you are interested to help make it happen next year?Read this page about how to organise a local contest, start your preparations (including creation of lists of monuments if not existing yet) and add your country/area at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2016/Participating countries.
