similar to File:BG Group-CNOOC signing ceremony in Brisbane hosted by QGC (8712724787).jpg but women instead of men. RZuo (talk) 13:44, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How about this image? It's fistbumps instead of shaking hands though. It says you can download it at Creative Commons 0 on their site and lists a contact e-mail address. Someone Not Awful (talk) 17:16, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maps of some temple complexes in India

[edit]

There are several temple complexes in India and many of them prohibit mobile phones or similar electronic equipments inside them. Therefore, I think we should create static maps of them so that people can navigate inside the temple complexes without carrying any electronic devices by printing those maps. Examples of temple complexes in India include Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Jagannath Temple, Puri, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Madurai Meenakshi Temple etc. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 17:42, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

While OpenStreetMap is useful to do so, I found only a few temple complexes with details, including Madurai Meenakshi Temple and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam. Other complexes need more details and Kashi Vishwanath Temple is surprisingly almost non-existent in OpenStreetMap. Local knowledge would be useful, as you can hardly expect photos inside these complexes. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 17:53, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Samsung laptops

[edit]

Hey all anyone who owns a Samsung laptop, I would appreciate taking pictures of it for Wikipedia. Specifically if you have a Samsung Notebook / 9 Series, or a Samsung Galaxy Book, it would be great because there's currently a lack of free photos.

The Wikipedia articles in question are: Samsung Notebook 9, Samsung Galaxy Book, and Samsung Notebook. If you do contribute and upload then please add them onto these Wikipedia pages. Chifonr (talk) 17:48, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Non-gif format for Images on the Voyager Golden Record

[edit]
When this discussion is archived, please drop a link at Category talk:Images on the Voyager Golden Record.

Category:Images on the Voyager Golden Record currently only contain low-quality images in the gif format, which among other things only allow 256 unique colors. Compare https://goldenrecord.org/png/013.png to File:Voyager golden record 13 earth.gif: even though the png has fewer pixels at 477×382, the text edges appear smoother, presumably because no color quantization compromise was done. Similarly, the Principia page https://goldenrecord.org/png/111.png is much more readable than in the gif we have.

The actual images should have all analogue levels, being 512 lines tall. In square pixels, it should be about 639×512 based on goldenrecord.org image size. If someone could find images of that size without significant artifacts, even better. If not, I still think replacing the gifs with GR.org pngs would be an improvement.

I've tried the following sources, but none is better than GR.org:

I'd think the people at GR.org know where to look, but I'm failing to find any contact info.

Royal Stool from the Kingdom of Benin

[edit]

I have done quite a deep search on categories related to the Kingdom of Benin but could not find this particular image of the Royal Stool from the Kingdom of Benin. Can this one from the British Museum be uploaded please: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/E_Af1898-0630-2

It will be added to articles like w:Battle of Ekiokpagha where the stool in question was mentioned.

Many thanks! Vanderwaalforces (talk) 23:00, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanderwaalforces: photos from your link are copyrighted, so i guess a photo of this can be uploaded only in the following scenarios:
  1. find that stool in the museum, or another similar stool, and take a photo.
  2. convince the museum to release the photos under a free com:license.
  3. wait until those copyrights expire.--RZuo (talk) 17:28, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gillette Guard razor

Johnston Memorial, Churchyard of the Church of St Mary, Gilston, Hertfordshire, England

[edit]

Tucked away in the south-west corner of the churchyard of St Mary's Church, Gilston, in East Hertfordshire,[1], England is the little-known, and even less-photographed, Johnston Memorial. It comprises a cross, from which the top has broken off, in memory of Lieutenant Geoffrey Stewart Johnston, flanked by two headstones commemorating his parents, Rose Alice, and Reginald Eden. It has some importance as a Grade I listed memorial,[2] by the, now disgraced, artist Eric Gill. An unusable image can be seen at the bottom of page 26 of this, [3]. I would really like a usable image and wonder if any Wikipedia editor knows of one, or is located sufficiently close to Gilston to be able to take one. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Pronunciation: jnana, phala

audio recording of pronunciation of:

  1. jnana, the word that means knowledge, or its original sanskrit form.
  2. phala, Sanskrit term that means “fruit” of one's actions in Buddhism.

please indicate in what language you are speaking that word and preferably your dialect or accent? thx.--RZuo (talk) 07:28, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Although I don't have much understanding in Sanskrit, I can produce most of its sounds, because my native tongue (Bengali) is ultimately derived from Sanskrit. However, the given words are pronounced quite differently in Bengali (/ɡæn/ and /pʰɔl/ respectively, notice the final a's are dropped in pronunciation). I have found the original pronunciations from Wiktionary, and I may create audio recordings of them soon. --Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 16:49, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These are several frescos painted by Diego Rivera that are located in the Detroit Institute of Arts (see DIA page). They are in the public domain because of publication without copyright notice. It would be great if someone were to take high-resolution photos of these murals because the only pictures we have of them on Commons either are low-res, fail to entirely cover a mural, or need to be deleted for not being PD-art. prospectprospekt (talk) 04:15, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
