Hallo, a "cupola" IS a "Dome". So you are adding the same category twice. The rule is that every category should be listed only once, in English. Best wishes. --User:G.dallorto 12:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hallo, before writing you I had checked, since English is not my tongue. So at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dome I read: "Domes that have been disproportionately influential in later architecture are those of the Great Stupa in Sanchi (actually, a solid mound with stone facing), the Pantheon in Rome, Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, and the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem."
- It looks like the cupola is a part of the dome: I quote from the same entry "Domes" from Wikipedia in English: "Many domes are topped by a lantern, a structure with openings (or windows) to admit light in the cupola."
- The definition this entry gives is: "A cupola is a dome-shaped ornamental structure located on top of a larger roof or dome, often used as a lookout or to admit light and provide ventilation. The word comes, through Italian, from the lower Latin cupula (classical Latin cupella from the Greek kupellon), small cup, indicating a vault resembling an upside-down cup."
- We should perhaps ask English-speaking people to decide? --User:G.dallorto 17:26, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Done: Commons:Village_pump#English_native_speaker_needed. Let's see what they will answer us. :-) --User:G.dallorto 18:48, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello Siebraund,
The picture is my first try, to show fotos in commons. The picture has been taken by my friend Georg Weichert. He is agreeable that everybody might use his foto. I'm not aware, what kind of fault or error I've made. Could you tell me, because I want to send more (and better) fotos to commons. Thank your very much. Warburg.
Thank you for adding the category Category:Renaissance in Italy to Category:Renaissance reliefs in Venice. However, Category:Renaissance reliefs in Venice is a sub-category of Category:Renaissance sculptures in Venice, which is a sub-category of Category:Renaissance sculptures in Italy, which is a sub-category of Category:Renaissance art in Italy, which in its turn is a sub-category of Category:Renaissance in Italy. Therefore, before adding a new category, check whether you are creating an overcategorisation by putting the same page twice in the same category. Thank you. --User:G.dallorto 17:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
This category should contain only drawings which have been made by Leonardo as separate entities, not parts of scientific studies, designs preparing Leonardo's work on pictures/sculptures or design drawings.--Czarnoglowa 17:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
20th Century sculptures
editHello Warburg, I notice that you introduced a new categorie: 20th Century sculpture (s). Since April 2007 I worked hard to start Category: Modern sculptures and Category: Modern sculptors as the period in which the works are created is not exactly the 20th Century. In the first month I had to empty Category : Contemporary sculpture as well and all related categories (such as Sculpture Parks and Gardens) are now in a healthy condition. Luckily I detected in such an early state that you are trying to reinstate such categories again. Believe me, 20th Century and Contemporary, is sometimes correct but overall (and I talk about the vast majority of the modern sculptors) Modern sculpture is indeed a better Category. The period "Modern" starts roughly in the nineteentwenties and still goes on in the 21st Century. I hope you can appreciate my corrections and am always willing to talk about this subject.--Gerardus 15:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Modern sculptures
editHi, Warburg I suppose you read my message on 20th Century Sculptures. I saw to-day your activities of August 3 in the Category:Modern sculptures. Let me explain the purpose of this Category: give every artist mentioned in Category:Modern sculptors one or two images as an example of his work. If you link all images by modern sculptors to this Category soon there are so many images you loose control and nobody can find what he is looking for. The main purpose of Category:Modern sculptors is to store as many free images as possible by name of the sculptor. New sculptors not listed yet and new images not uploaded yet are more than welcome in this category and that alone is an enormous task. So please help me in finding new images in countries with "freedom of panorama" as Germany, The Netherlands, Scandinavia, Great Britain and Ireland and so on (or make the images yourself). Greetings--Gerardus 14:54, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Bad Ems Kursaal.JPG
edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Bad Ems Kursaal.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. --Filnik 11:36, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Jesse
editWhy did you move icon of Jesse to Isaiah category??? It should be in Jesse category. I put it back. Dont move it please. It is Jesse, father of David and ancestor of Jesus, on the icon and not Isaiah. It says Иессей (Jesse) in Russian on top right of icon. There is another different icon of Iasaih (Исайя in russian, it is not the same if you thought so) that I just uploaded and put it in Isaiah category. Kind regrads, --Roman Zacharij 09:45, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
This is a person and not a tree. In a tree of Jesse there are images of genealogical trees, in category Jesse there are image of person Jesse. But it does not matter now...it has been corrected, problem solved...never mind...keep working:) --Roman Zacharij 13:48, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

usage of categories
edithello there Warburg,
I had to revert your readdition of the category "Giambologna" to my images of the Image:Villa Castello Florence Apr 2008 (20).JPG. If category A is in category B which is in C, then you don't list A again under C. This is called "over-categorisation", the policy regarding this can be found here Commons:Categories#Over-categorization. feel free to ask if you have any questions. sincerly Gryffindor 17:55, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Please tag your images
edit
Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you.

I am interested in using one of your photographs in a textbook, but I don't think this use is covered by the Sharealike license. Please contact me for more information. My e-mail address is mcintyre[removethispart]@sinauer.com (but you need to remove the part in square brackets, of course).

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:29, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, as per default, see category template, regardless of the country:
- [quotation] ..images/pictures taken in Switzerland in this month...[quotation]
- That's why it's an admissible category.
- And,
- there is a bot that will add that category to other images taken within December 2012,
- in fact, there's is a limited number of wikipedians taking photographs, also in Switzerland,
- December just started two days ago.
- Kind regards, Roland 15:12, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Ciao! --User:G.dallorto (talk) 08:49, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
GWT category
editHi, I noticed that you removed the GWT category with this change. This means it will not be counted in later stats, and may miss out on systematic improvements. Was this intended? --Fæ (talk) 19:25, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Death and the Maiden from Bode museum
editFile:12 Bode Death and the Maiden 1.JPG
Thank you for this remarkable image. Do you have any information about it, other than it is in the Bode museum? Who made it, from what period? How big is it? It looks in the picture that it is almost full-size, but you write it is made of ivory, so it couldn't be that big. Any information would be welcome. --Ravpapa 12:20, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Global account
editHi Warburg! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:30, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

File tagging File:Poster Rau.JPG
editThis media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Poster Rau.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Poster Rau.JPG ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Questions upon the use of one of your images
editHello Warburg,
Thank you very much for all the images in public domain. I am a researcher in France and it is a very big help.
I have got some questions about your image VoidStone, 1987, from George Brecht. I would like to use it in an upcoming book, that will be published at Les presses du réel, Dijon France. Is the Public Domain License still ok for you? And if it is ok, could you give me your real name, so I could write you as a credit for the image?
Thanks in advance
Best Regards,
Avert Erik
