Why is it called the "Wisconsin School of Business"? The answer is more interesting than you think!

With conventional naming gifts, a business school changes its name to honor a single donor or entity. In Fall '07, however, WSB received a naming gift that came with no name. This gift was from 13 like-minded UW alumni rather than a single donor; they joined to create the Wisconsin Naming Partnership, with an investment of $85 million to preserve the School's name for at least 20 years.

The Wisconsin Naming Partnership has now become the cornerstone and inspiration for our vision and strategy: by coming together, we can accomplish what others would not dare dream on their own.

Did you know this fun fact about the Wisconsin School of Business?

💡 Alumni Spotlight: Marcus Alston, MBA '19

Marcus Alston, named one of Update Magazine's 8 to Watch alumni for 2024, is a classically trained clarinet player who detoured into banking in the midst of pursuing his music degree. While working full time at Chase, Alston began putting in long, grueling days to finish his degree while playing in an orchestra at night.

The support that his employer provided during this time kickstarted a passion for HR that led Alston to the Wisconsin MBA. The HR specialization gave Alston the opportunity to make a new path for himself into business.

"Wisconsin put rocket boosters on the vision I had for myself," Alston said of his time here. He came to WSB with a new career goal of becoming a chief HR officer, and upon graduation joined Cisco's three-year HR leadership program. He is now a leader & senior people partner at Cisco after finishing the HR leadership program early.

📆 Mark your calendars to learn more about Marcus's journey to HR! Our Black in the Boardroom panel in February will feature Marcus and other MBA alums who will share their experiences in the business world post-MBA. Register now: https://bit.ly/3SdgapL (Or visit the events page at the link in bio)
