Building the future of health care

Our current impact

We are grateful to our donors and industry partners for their generous contributions, which enable the AMA Foundation to advance its mission of building the future of health care. The significant milestones achieved are a direct reflection of your support, and we are proud to share recent accomplishments:

• In 2024, we awarded $345,000 in scholarship aid to medical students through the Physicians of Tomorrow Program, continuing our dedication to promoting diversity in medical education. Since 2020, we have disbursed over $1.5 million.
• We have provided $290,000 through the Disaster Relief Recovery Fund since 2020 to further support the physician community. These funds have aided state medical societies and associations in Colorado, Nebraska and Florida in responding to natural disasters and addressing emerging needs.
• We invested $2.5 million in our innovative National LGBTQ+ Fellowship Program, driving health care equity by reshaping medical education. Since its launch in 2020, we have funded programs at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Harvard Medical School-Fenway Health and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
• In 2023, we introduced the Health Equity Acceleration Fund, committing $5 million over three years to advance AMA’s health equity initiatives, addressing long-standing health care access and outcomes disparities.
• In the summer of 2024, we welcomed 15 aspiring physicians into the Leadership Development Institute. The institute has empowered 56 medical students in total with essential leadership skills.
• The Release the Pressure initiative, which aims to improve hypertension outcomes in the Black community, continues to thrive. In collaboration with the American Heart Association, the Association of Black Cardiologists, the Minority Health Institute, and the National Medical Association, the AMA Foundation distributed $1,050,000 over three years to fund critical clinical-community partnerships. We are currently in the final year.
• A $1.6 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is supporting approaches to addressing health inequities, with a portion allocated to the AMA for continued work in restorative justice efforts.
