Stage Select is a menu that appears only when selecting the Multiplayer or Practice options on the Title Screen. Choosing Practice will first have the player pick a save file on Player Select before moving to Stage Select. Selecting Multiplayer will first have the player determine the number of players on How Many Players?, and then choose the save files on Player Select before moving to Stage Select. In Stage Select, a full list of every Stage from each Level is displayed. Each option displays the Level and Stage number.[3] Players can play any of these Stages to practice or fight against opponents in Multiplayer without having to complete the entire Level. Although every Stage is shown, only the Stages that are from Levels Link has unlocked can be accessed to play. Stages that have not been unlocked are dimmed out and not selectable. Because Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 are already unlocked upon starting the game, the Stages from those respective Levels are automatically unlocked in Stage Select. A button in the bottom left corner of the menu bring take the player back to the Player Select.[4] A button in the top right corner will take the player to the Best Scores menu, where players can see which save file holds the highest score for every Stage in Practice.[5][6] In Multiplayer, the button to access the Best Scores menu does not appear.
