With its IT systems, the University of Stuttgart provides the necessary infrastructure to facilitate first-rate and efficient work in research, teaching and administration with digital processes. This includes managing research data from collecting raw data to archiving, enabling creative digital environments for teaching and learning, and improving working processes in the administration.

The opportunities of digitalization are assessed jointly within the university and strategically exploited. Students and employees are fully involved in the steps toward digitalization and are trained and advised accordingly. New trends in digitalization - for example in the field of virtualization, but also in the areas of e-learning and e-science - are to be identified early on and, if appropriate, be implemented.
We want to support the processes in teaching, research and administration with IT in the best possible way, and so prepare the university for the challenges of digitalization.

Teaching policy of the University of Stuttgart: “Teaching and learning with digital formats and teaching new skills for the digital world”
The teaching policy adopted by the Rectorate is the guideline to which all digitalization measures in teaching can be aligned in the future. The teaching policy emphasizes that the University of Stuttgart sees itself as a classroom university, but encourages all its members to actively and creatively participate in the process of digital transformation, thereby achieving the university's goals.

Project MakEd_digital
As a joint Makerspace project of the University of Stuttgart and its partner universities from the Professional School of Education Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg, the MakEd_digital project takes another step toward digitization in teacher training. 3D printers, laser cutters and numerous other digital tools are available in Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg in the open workshops to test, experience and further develop the pedagogical use of these devices.

At the University of Stuttgart, there is great potential for making administrative processes more efficient, effective and secure with digital support. That is why the program “Step by Step Toward Digital Processes” exists with the goal of gradually introducing lean, low-paper administrative processes throughout the university. The Chancellor and the CIO act as clients on behalf of the rectorate.
