I’m not suggesting that Graham told Dabo that he had to make a change, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a meeting and Neff made it clear that Dabo isn’t paid in excess of $10 million a year to finish outside the top 10.

Not going with coot on JK. He has his preferences sports wise and has been on the defense for years. Now he sees a crack in the armor of Clemson’s main bread winner and has begun his revenge tour. Of course he denies and tells us how much he supports the FB program. He was “just wondering” if Neff leaned on CDS.

The thought didn’t cross my mind. I think we are all interested in knowing what happened given how sudden it was. Dabo only gave Streeter one year and had his replacement already picked when he fired him.

So sudden that the word is that this was already in motion when Texas A&M was courting Riley. They announced Petrino a week ago. That should give you an idea how suddenly the back channels were working this deal.

Kidding aside, I am proud of him, though. It takes a big man to admit you screwed up and try to fix it. That’s essentially what he’s done here. Clemson football will be better for it.

It could be both. I do think Dabo realized how poorly the offense played, but for some reason, he's been utterly loyal to Streeter. You have to remember that two separate governors of the school badmouthed Clemson's play this year (obviously, Nikki Haley's is the one that drew the spotlight). Those are everyone's boss. I wouldn't be surprised if they told him he had to get rid of Streeter.

I’m confident Dabo realized that there was a problem. What I don’t know is if he realized it on his own or had some help.
Ultimately, the important thing is that we upgraded our coaching staff and injected some much needed energy into our football program. Here’s to next year ending our underachieving streak.

but it wasn't Neff until he decided to make the move. These would be football people, confidants, not administrators. He was under no pressure from anyone associated with Clemson to do anything he felt wasn't right, because he has a long track record of that. He's earned that like no one in the history of the university. Generated more money for the university than anyone in history. Brought more positive publicity and success than anyone in the history university.
You might as well have said Bama's AD is telling Nick to make changes

into career suicide this early in his tenure.
Just because he applied some pressure to Brad Brownell after a dozen years does not mean he’s insane enough to think he has the juice to pressure a Dabo Swinney.
Neff is even close to pressing Dabo about staffing decisions.

No matter how much some of you want to imagine he did.
Look at what actually happened:
-He and the BOT approved the hiring of Billy Dolon, who is paid a higher salary than any Clemson basketball assistant has ever gotten. Why? Because Neff realized that Brad needed more money for better assistants. -He publicly stated that there are things Clemson needs to do better to support basketball, such as ongoing facility improvements. -He said that he believes in Brad to achieve the goals that both of them (not just Neff) have for the program.
I’m not sure why you and others keep bringing up basketball though. It has nothing to do with football, which is the topic of this thread.

I have been reading Tnet a long time. Up until recently never posted much, but have decided to share my thoughts more on this board more of my beloved tigers. I for one get tired of seeing your divisive posts.
As striper pointed out above, you take a very heavy passive-aggressive stance. You will post something utterly negative about the football team and it’s staff, players and Dabo, and then when people get on to you, you pretend like you didn’t say it and proceed to put up this facade and act like you just love them all the sudden and say the best things about them, AFTER bashing them. Just don’t understand it.

I do agree 100% Dabo just flexed up, showed he still (and has always) had the fire. Eye of the Tiger.
I'd be willing to guess he went though a long, thorough look in the mirror as well. It is a clean move. Send Streeter out, with great gratitude, bring the next person in. He did not allow any speculation to linger out of respect to Coach Streeter.

Donors did though. Those donors gave the money because Brownell met with them and sold him on his vision.
Neff wasn’t the AD when those renovations were approved.
The result of those improvements is an improved talent level on our team, which has resulted in a school record 10 straight regular season ACC wins and sole possession of first place in the ACC.
This is despite Clemson having what is arguably the worst basketball history in the ACC and among the lowest funding in the ACC for the basketball program.
Now THAT’s overachieving! Go Clemson basketball!
P.S. I’m laughing at how fragile you are, trying to bash basketball in a football thread. The ultimate sign of weakness.

I'm guessing that wasn't necessary. I think it was as plain to Dabo as it was to many others that the last two years have shown a decline. I understand him not making a change during the year but to be honest, I thought he'd take more time to find a replacement. Hard to find fault with hiring the guy who was just named top OC in the nation. Can't wait to see the changes Riley brings to the program. Wonder if Dabo will still hold that ###### play card during games?

Wasn’t it Shipley that politely questioned the play calls during the chicken game? I remember one of the players stating that they questioned the incoming call based on what they were seeing open on the field. Allen recently liked a tweet questioning the play calling. Ngata thanked Scott but not Streeter. These are just three things that I am aware of. I am betting there are more. If Dabo did not make a change, he was going to lose the locker room.

Aren't up to "OUR" Standard? That's pretty funny. Who do you think set the standard in the first place? If you mean the standard of consecutive playoffs and national championships, that was never "OUR" standard until Dabo came along.
Dabo did what all good coaches do; he recessed and is making needed changes. Everyone got all bent out of shape that he wouldn't admit some of his hires weren't working out. Well, he just admitted it by making a big change and he did it the way everyone said they wanted, by going out and hiring a BIG NAME OC and he is working Scott back into the mix, also what a lot of folks said they wanted.
The man isn't perfect but he is decisive when he needs to be, but make no mistake, he is also the guy calling the shots when it comes to timing and changes for the football program and he certainly has the support of the administration and the BOT to do just that.

You are free to go back and look at my posts from a year ago when I said he should have conducted a national search for best-of-breed coaches to at least have something to compare with the internal hires he wanted to make. I stand by that. I've also said on more than one occasion that he is not perfect and makes mistakes, just like the rest of us. I've also said he has earned the right to make those mistakes and to make the corrections as he sees fit when he sees fit.
And last, I've said I support him even when I disagree with him, unlike a few others who seem to enjoy playing the game of gotcha because they are so green with envy that they really don't know what else to do.

When you have a minute could you reflect on what it is like to become a villain in one’s own life story. It’s fascinating. At one point you clearly were a fan. And now you clearly want to watch it all burn.

JK... I've held my tongue on all your BS for years. You are a sad case of an excuse for a "fan". My grandfather graduated from Clemson in '48 and my blood truly "runs orange". He was an IPTAY member when it meant I Pay Ten A Year... I've attended 85% of all home football games since I was 5 years old. I found my way down a handicap ramp at 10 years old to get out on the field at the Orange Bowl in '82 after beating the huskers. All that being said I think I can speak for a large group here on T-Net when I say you don't have a clue what the pulse of Clemson Football really is and that Dabo is; as my tatoo to honor my grandfather shows, he is a Clemson Gentleman who needs no introduction. Dabo is a man who has more respect in his proffesion than you,me, or most others could dream of having. Carry on with your basketball comments but please S.T.H.U. about anyting football related!!

Well said! Not sure why he can’t do what I do with BB. Not my cup of tea but I will always support them. I stay out of the hating and the opinions of the coach. Judge hides behind passive aggressive and snide remarks. Time for a recess and some self assessment IMO. Maybe just enjoy the BB success and leave the FB board alone for a bit?

I absolutely support our football team.
I’m thrilled that Dabo made this move. It was the right thing to do. Our program will be better for it.
Why is my post wondering if Neff had something to do with it so hard for some of you? Our football program isn’t a communist regime. There is a chain of command, and despite Dabo’s incredible success, he isn’t the second highest paid coach in college football just to promote unqualified candidates and finish outside the top 10 two years in a row.
It’s not at all unreasonable to think that maybe, just maybe, there was some pressure for Dabo to take a closer look at the peogram.
The fact that my post somehow says that I don’t like our football team or am jealous of Dabo shows what a cult mentality some of you truly have.
Dat Boy & The Fanboys is truly taking on a life of its own!

Your nonsensical dislike of Dabo, contrasted with your schoolboy infatuation with our basketball coach, is weird. It is irrational and annoying. I am not at all sure you even pull for Tiger football to win. Just stop, bro.

Maybe it is just the way you frame it that always gives it away and then the follow-up response of "oh you just don't understand, that isn't what I meant. How could you possible take it that way."

If Dabo told Neff to jump in a lake he would ask Hartwell or Keowee.

All I know is they fist pumped each other when Neff walked in late to basketball game. Dabo left early talking on his phone. I assumed he was “recruiting “, just didn’t know it was for a new OC!

I have no doubt it was Dabo going to Neff telling him what he had in mind rather than the other way around...

A change was necessary, but in all honesty I figured Dabo was too stubborn to make it. There may have been some prodding involved.
