     Major Mervyn Sydney Bobus Vernon was born on 8 April 1912.3 He was the son of Rupert Robert Charles Vernon and Dorothy Inez Elinor Thornycroft.3 He married Lady Violet Mary Baring, daughter of Rowland Thomas Baring, 2nd Earl of Cromer and Lady Ruby Florence Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, on 28 January 1937.3 He died on 5 December 1991 at age 79 at Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England.3,4
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.3 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.3 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1936.3 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.3 He gained the rank of Major in the Grenadier Guards.3 He lived at Bowldown, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.1

     Rupert Robert Charles Vernon was born on 31 December 1872.1 He was the son of Hon. Greville Richard Vernon and Susan Caroline Cockerell.2 He married Dorothy Inez Elinor Thornycroft, daughter of George Benjamin Thorneycroft and Blanche Mary Mervyn Archdale, on 18 October 1906.1 He died on 4 May 1940 at age 67.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the West Australian MI.1 He fought in the Boer War.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He held the office of Member of Somerset County Council.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Somerset.1 He lived at Bowldown Farm, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.2

     Dorothy Inez Elinor Thornycroft was born circa 1881.1 She was the daughter of George Benjamin Thorneycroft and Blanche Mary Mervyn Archdale.2,3 She married Rupert Robert Charles Vernon, son of Hon. Greville Richard Vernon and Susan Caroline Cockerell, on 18 October 1906.1 She died on 19 February 1965, killed in a car crash.1
     Her married name became Vernon.
