     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 7th Gurkha Rifles.1

     Brig.-Gen. William St. Colum Bland was born on 6 June 1868.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Edward Loftus Bland and Emma Frances Franks.1 He married Ellen Kathleen Ogilvie, daughter of Hon. Edward David Stewart Ogilvie and Theodosia Isabella Burgh, on 5 September 1903.1 He died on 9 February 1950 at age 81.1
     He was commissioned in 1887, in the service of the Royal Artillery.1 He fought in the Manipur War of Independence between 1891 and 1892 at BurmaG.1 He fought in the Waziristan Expedition between 1894 and 1895.1 He fought in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 in ChinaG, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was an Instructor in the School of Gunnery between 1906 and 1909.1 He was the Superintendent of Experiments between 1909 and 1913.1 He was a member of the Ordnance Board in 1914.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was the President of the Ordnance Committee between 1916 and 1919.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.1 He was Commandant of the Ordnance College between 1919 and 1920.1 He retired from the military in 1920, with the rank of honorary Brigidier-General.1 He lived at Warden Hill, Weeke, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1

     From 5 September 1903, her married name became Bland.1
