     Sir John Smith-Burges, 1st and last Bt. was born circa 1734.1 He was the son of John Smith and Mary Ransom.1 He married Margaret Burges, daughter of Ynyr Burges and Margaret Brown, on 14 May 1771.1,2 He died on 24 April 1803, without issue.3 He was buried at East Ham, Essex, EnglandG.3
     He was given the name of John Smith at birth.1 He was a director of the East India Company.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Regiment, East India Volunteers.1 On 10 June 1790 his name was legally changed to John Smith-Burges by Royal Licence.1 He was created 1st Baronet Smith-Burges, of Eastham, co. Essex [Great Britain] on 4 May 1793.1 He lived at Thorpe Hall, Essex, EnglandG.1 He lived at Eastham, Essex, EnglandG.1 He lived at Havering-atte-Bower, Essex, EnglandG.1

James Somerville, 12th Lord Somerville1

     James Somerville, 12th Lord Somerville was born on 25 January 1698.2 He was the son of James Somerville, 11th Lord Somerville and Margaret Murray.3 He married, firstly, Anne Bayntun, daughter of Henry Bayntun and Lady Anne Wilmot, on 18 September 1724.2 He married, secondly, Frances Rotherham, daughter of John Rotherham, in 1736.3 He died on 14 December 1765 at age 67.2
     He succeeded as the 12th Lord Somerville [S., 1444] in 1700.1 On 27 May 1723 his title was confirmed by Parliament.3 In 1742 he inherited the estates of his kinsman, William Somerville, the celebrated poet.3 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] in 1743.3
