What does this constraint mean?

[edit]

As I understand allowed-entity-types constraint (Q52004125), the qualifier value should be an entity type that the property may be used on: item, property, lexeme, etc. But as main value (Q54828448) isn't an entity type. What is this constraint supposed to do? Thanks, Swpb (talk) 14:42, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Swpb: Oops, thanks for notifying me! I must have slept while editing... I meant to say "Wikibase item", but I just undid that change now, and will defer setting the correct values until I know which ones apply. Property seems unlikely, but perhaps some Lexeme, Form or Sense might use it? --SM5POR (talk) 19:40, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, ok! I think Wikibase item would be the only acceptable entity type for criterion used (P1013). Swpb (talk) 19:45, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Swpb: The reason I'm considering also the lexeme/form/sense domain is that criterion used (P1013) has as qualifier (Q54828449) as its (only) permitted property scope. There are several properties that can be used with lexemes just as well as with regular items, and criterion used (P1013) is such a generic qualifier that it might well be used with some of those, such as statistical or demographic ones, say a map showing where a particular word is commonly used or whatever.
At the very least, I should investigate current usage of criterion used (P1013) before interfering with possibly quite reasonable use. If there is currently no conflicting use, I may still want to leave my considerations above in a note just in case someone may try it in the future.
The lexeme domain is still very much under development, and I have a number of ideas that I'd like to discuss within the lexicographic project, such as moving certain properties (say, female form of label (P2521) or other cases requiring massive use of language of work or name (P407) as qualifiers) out of the item domain and into the lexeme/sense domain only. --SM5POR (talk) 09:24, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You did something to this property that is messing it up on Commons. It's meant to be used as part of the "depicts", as you can tell because P462 is an instance of Wikidata property used as "depicts" (P180) qualifier on Commons (Q70564278), but now it says it can't be used because of constraints not allowing it. I'll assume you were trying to do something constructive, so a remedy by you is better than a revert by me. Senator2029 13:35, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Senator2029: Thank you for alerting me to the problem. I was unaware of the depicts (P180) relationship; could you please point to an example of such usage? I have undone my changes and will not reinstate them until I understand their implications. --SM5POR (talk) 19:44, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Also, I had the opportunity to browse through your contributions and user page. You do good work—most of it complicated—but necessary for Wikidata to be reliable as a repository of facts. Laying the groundwork for other editors to follow will be appreciated by all who use Wikidata, now and in the future. Senator2029 20:57, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Senator2029: Thank you, it's good to get confirmation that I'm on the right track. But during the two years since I first learned about Wikidata, I have become overwhelmed by the magnitude of the effort. I have plenty of ideas to explore, but I'm acting alone, cooperating with others on a rare few issues only, lacking the sustained teamwork that might make the job easier. Do you have any suggestions for how to find or create a team? The WikiProjects I have joined don't seem to function as teams. --SM5POR (talk) 05:46, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sm5por,

TomTom POI files are called .asc or .ov2. The itenary is always called .itn. Wonne-Kietz Connewitz (talk) 19:08, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Wonne-Kietz Connewitz: Hi, thank you for contributing! I had to go back in my history log to see what I had been doing with that item... I now recall fixing some problem with the file format family (Q26085352) properties that led me to go through the GPSBabel (Q1486544) file formats. The filename extensions you mention could be added using file extension (P1195), but that property also recommends adding the corresponding media type (P1163) codes. You don't happen to know what those type codes are? SM5POR (talk) 21:22, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Q1969448

[edit]

Hi,

In a message on WD:LD, you made a digression and said « maybe 50,000 instances of term (Q1969448) » and then talking about moving them to the Lexeme namespace. Out of curiosity, I did a SPARQL query: https://w.wiki/6DC3 but only found 1911 results, almost none could be deleted as item : only 149 are not linked to a wikimedia page: https://w.wiki/6DC4 so we could copy them but not moving them.

Is there something I misunderstand? If we could move some data to Lexemes, I would be glad to help.

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 20:04, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@VIGNERON: I may have misremembered some of my statistics, but try wdt:P31/wdt:P279* and you'll get something like 20,000 hits, and lots more if you expand the class from term (Q1969448) to word or phrase (Q115372263) (I think you should use SELECT DISTINCT and filter away lexemes to avoid duplicates and only get items from Q-space).
I'm aware of the problem with other Wikimedia pages currently requiring Q-items in Wikidata, but I have a suggestion for that too (it will require revising WMF/Wikidata standard policy and probably some phabricator tickets): Allow redirection from Q-space to L-space, or even link Wikipedia etc directly to L-space.
It's obviously not something we can decide alone, but I believe this is a means for WMF to move forward in the long run; every word of every language simply doesn't belong in Q-space in addition to having a lexeme in L-space. SM5POR (talk) 20:57, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in the WQT UI requirements elicitation online workshop

[edit]

Dear SM5POR,

I hope you are doing well,

We are a group of researchers from King’s College London working on developing WQT (Wikidata Quality Toolkit), which will support a diverse set of editors in curating and validating Wikidata content.

We are inviting you to participate in an online workshop aimed at understanding the requirements for designing effective and easy-to-use user interfaces (UI) for three tools within WQT that can support the daily activities of Wikidata editors: recommending items to edit based on their personal preferences, finding items that need better references, and generating entity schemas automatically for better item quality.

The main activity during this workshop will be UI mockup sketching. To facilitate this, we encourage you to attend the workshop using a tablet or laptop with PowerPoint installed or any other drawing tools you prefer. This will allow for a more interactive and productive session as we delve into the UI mockup sketching activities.

Participation is completely voluntary. You should only take part if you want to and choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in any way. However, your cooperation will be valuable for the WQT design. Please note that all data and responses collected during the workshop will be used solely for the purpose of improving the WQT and understanding editor requirements. We will analyze the results in an anonymized form, ensuring your privacy is protected. Personal information will be kept confidential and will be deleted once it has served its purpose in this research.

The online workshop, which will be held on April 5th, should take no more than 3 hours.

If you agree to participate in this workshop, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form to register your interest https://forms.office.com/e/9mrE8rXZVg Then, I will contact you with all the instructions for the workshop.

For more information about my project, please read this page: https://king-s-knowledge-graph-lab.github.io/WikidataQualityToolkit/

If you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me at the email address mentioned above.

Thank you for considering taking part in this project.

Regards Kholoudsaa (talk) 16:42, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kholoudsaaː very much interested, as I have indicated inmy response on the sign-up form, I have technical problems reading e-mail, therefore I want to encourage you to provide alternative communication channels. I'll make a note about April5th in my calendar, and I'dappreciate a more precise time of day for the workshop.--SM5POR (talk) 16:43, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kholoudsaaː Thank you for notifying me here,I have added the webinar details to my calendar. I hope to be aable to connect to the webinar room in advance ofthe starting time given, to try out my laptop audio and video settings. I have vocal cord paralysis, meaning I may at times have trouble making myself heard, but I hope I can compensate for that somewhat using text input or perhaps even Google Translate speech synthesis. iialso want to advise you that I live in a residential 24/7 care home where staff occasionally come and go to provide me with medication and feeding, wherefore at times I may have to turn off my video camera to avoid including them in my transmitted stream in compliance with residential regulations.--SM5POR (talk) 09:07, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whenit comes to tools for promoting thequality of Wikidatacontent, 'ihave high hopes for the modelitem concept, and would like to contribute to its extended use, with the help of automation, ranking and adequate qualifiers I would welcome a workshop group focussed on model items, model lexemes etc.--̃~̴~̴ SM5POR (talk) 09:07, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Svar angående inloggningsproblem

[edit]

EPIC (talk) 14:11, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional advertising

[edit]

Template:Help me I'd like some help clarifying Wikipedia/Wikidata policy on promotion. To what extent (if any), am I allowed to describe or link to external (non-WMF-related), currently non-commercial projects that i'm either involved or interested in, on my user page or some talk page, when the audience i have in mind are other wiki editors with similar interests, or knowledgeable in a related area (such as a language), not the general public. As I know clearly promotional material is a violation, I don't dare mentioning a project I have in mind even as a mere example, for fear of having this question deleted, which would of course defeat its purpose. I'd be happy to send the link in private to anyone willing to try giving me an answer as to how "clearly" should be interpreted here. Maybe a specially-crafted template {semi-promotional} could be useful to mark permissible material, but protect it against removal? Oh, and I sure see how such a template could be abused; it's just an idea anyway. --SM5POR (talk) 12:13, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Desperately making amends

[edit]

Template:Help me

I have messed up. I found myself climbing the walls and going nuts over what seemed to be a glaring omission in some Wikipedia articles, which wasn't, as was kindly explained to me in the thread I started, for which I'm enormously grateful. Now, as I try to go back to all the places where I have made overly self-confident remarks and retract them, I keep being hit by an unforgiving screen keyboard messing up my edits, and my retractions are left in a poor condition with broken URLs etc all over. I would like some kind soul with a steady hand help me fix those edits before they cause troble for someone else. Please have a look at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property_talk:P941#Source_reference_obviously_not_needed%3F and tell me what I'm doing wrong, or better yet, fix it for me as I'm stuck with this keyboard of mine. --SM5POR (talk) 17:43, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
