Wikisource additions

[edit]

When you add a translation of a work, it should be a new data item, because it is in a different language from the original. It will have a different language, different publication information, etc. --EncycloPetey (talk) 17:24, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tool per le immagini su wikidata

[edit]

Ciao, sempre io.

Merge of "kerchief" and "bandana"

[edit]

Hi Carnby - I created "kerchief" as a separate item from bandana (Q180617) quite intentionally. I know EN wiki covers both items in a single article, but they are separate items in the Getty Art & Architecture thesaurus:

We've been using Getty AAT as a general guide to classification across all periods and cultures. Creating "kerchief" was part of a massive effort to clean up our hierarchy under the Fashion project - see the discussion here.

I'd like to put these back the way I had them - any objection? - PKM (talk) 19:57, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@PKM: Of course you may revert my edits. Probably also the en.wiki article should be updated with the info you provided.--Carnby (talk) 20:37, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! - PKM (talk) 21:30, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Update request for File:Gasoline unit.svg

[edit]

Hello.

Can you update the File:Gasoline unit.svg?

I have discovered seven days ago, that Myanmar uses the liter for gasoline in all its petrol stations and in plastic fuel cans since 2013. Prices of gasoline are only given in liters.

Here are sources:

Thank you.

Hello.

Can you correct the Bahamas in File:Countries that use Fahrenheit.svg? The country needs to be colored in light green, because it officially uses both Fahrenheit and Celsius in its official weather reports and data, which I discovered today.

Unlike the Cayman Islands and Puerto Rico (which is almost metric), the Bahamas has its own governmental meteorological department and weather radar stations from which it collects its data. So unlike these two territories, it is not totally dependent on NOAA.

Also in the national media, temperatures are given in both Fahrenheit and Celsius for weather reports, when they use Bahamian sources. They also use American sources and weather websites, which of course don't use Celsius (and metric measurements) unless they have a converter button for Celsius in their websites.

Update request for File:Metrication.svg

[edit]

Hello.

In File:Metrication.svg can you change the color of Myanmar from red to orange? That country now qualifies as semi-metric, because it uses kilometers for distances and speed limits, the liter for fuel and Celsius in metorological data and weather reports. These fields are significant enough, for the country to be updated from its obsolete non-metric status.

Here is a source with additional sources inside it:

https://metricviews.org.uk/2018/02/metric-in-myanmar-an-update/

In the same map, can you also color India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei in yellow? These countries overwhelmingly use square feet or square yard for housing, otherwise they are metric in practically every other field. In traditional farming and traditional markets, the Indian subcontinent also uses en:Indian units of measurements and Malaysia and Brunei also use en:Malay units of measurements, but also there the metric system is predominant for weights and measurements.

I bothered you too much with these three requests. That is all for this year.

Thank you again.

Salvagnoli

--ZioNicco (talk) 09:44, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment

[edit]

Dear Carnby,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue. The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link I will contact you with the link to start the study. For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Dubreq

[edit]

Hi Carnby,

which games has Dubreq (Q116998523) manufactured? 润学 (talk) 10:55, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@润学: Quartets (cards).-- Carnby (talk) 16:46, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've added in the sources you requested on the project chat. The info is from The National Biography of Finland (Q4349956). There are still a few honors there: "Suomen Leijonan K 1961; Vapaudenristi (VR) 3 1942; VR 4 1940; Italian Ansio-r. K; Italian Solidaarisuuden Tähden K; Ranskan Kunnialegioonan ups." but I have no clue as to how to add those to his item or which ones in particular we actually have items for. The ones he received by 1978 are also listed at his entry on the Finnish version of Who's Who from that year: "SL K, VR 3 ja 4, ItTAR K, ItStdSR K, RKL ups., It. kult. mit. koulu-, kulttuuri- ja taideansioista, It. ulkominist. kult. kult-tuurimit. a Eemil Aaltosen rahaston kunniapalk. 71, Suom. tiedeakat. 76." - Yupik (talk) 00:50, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yupik: Thank you--Carnby (talk) 06:03, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Constraint violations

[edit]

@Carnby, it is not appropriate to deprecate valid external identifiers simply because their statements contain constraint violations, as you did here for Art & Architecture Thesaurus ID (P1014) : 300008419 for county seat (Q62049). -- DCflyer* (talk) 05:08, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Dcflyer I'm sorry, I will be aware of that in the future.-- Carnby (talk) 07:39, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
