This is quite wrong: Ireland is not the Republic of Ireland as Northern Ireland is also part of Ireland. Leutha (talk) 21:33, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is correct, in Irish, British and international law - the name of the country is Ireland. The legal description, when distinction is needed, is "Republic of Ireland." Ireland is also the name of the island, of course, yes.

While I am here, I think the description is a bit vague - it is more than "major parts" - that sounds like bits of land scattered around the island. It is "most of" or "5/6 of."

The name of the State is Ireland not the Republic of Ireland

The name of the State is Ireland not the Republic of Ireland (Reference:https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27 )

Ireland is the name of the country as per Article 4 of the the Irish constitution (https://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/cons/en/html#part2)

2022 Population

[edit]

The population of Ireland is now 5,123,536 as per the 2022 census, I'd update it myself but it's semi-protected. (https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/ep/p-cpr/censusofpopulation2022-preliminaryresults/introduction/)
