This is quite wrong: Ireland is not the Republic of Ireland as Northern Ireland is also part of Ireland. Leutha (talk) 21:33, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- No, it is correct, in Irish, British and international law - the name of the country is Ireland. The legal description, when distinction is needed, is "Republic of Ireland." Ireland is also the name of the island, of course, yes.
While I am here, I think the description is a bit vague - it is more than "major parts" - that sounds like bits of land scattered around the island. It is "most of" or "5/6 of."
The name of the State is Ireland not the Republic of Ireland

2022 Population
[edit]The population of Ireland is now 5,123,536 as per the 2022 census, I'd update it myself but it's semi-protected. (https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/ep/p-cpr/censusofpopulation2022-preliminaryresults/introduction/)
