Hi, @UWashPrincipalCataloger: Valencian can be used with two meanings: One meaning is the dialect of the Catalan language. But it can also be used as a synonym for the whole Catalan language. The source literally says: «Catalan (official in [...] the Valencian Community (where it is known as Valencian))». So they are using it as the second meaning. In Wikidata, we represent the first meaning using the Valencian item, and we represent the second one using an alias in the Catalan item. So, in this case, we should change the Valencian value to the Catalan value. But, as we already have the Catalan value, we should just delete the Valencian value. If you think that it is necessary, we could also add a qualifier subject named as (P1810) Catalan and subject named as (P1810) Valencian.--FogueraC (talk) 09:37, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, or, alternatively, we could say "said to be same as" on each item. 174.21.191.24 21:57, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
- No, because the items are different: one is for the language (called Catalan or Valencian) and the other one is for the dialect (called Valencian).--FogueraC (talk) 14:53, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
