I've mind, the enwiki en:Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, has split into 2 articles: for Nintendo 3DS and for Wii U, and thus changed to a disambiguation page. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:59, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding use of Q21484471

[edit]

You reverted my edits because I left "main subject" in, but "Wikipedia article covering multiple topics" does not make sense in this case at all. The object is not about "multiple topics", it's about a single topic with 2 different versions. Wouldn't it be better to remove the "main subject" property altogether and instead just list the 3DS/Wii U objects under the property "has part"? This would make more sense, as "Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U" is just an umbrella for the two separate versions. --CaptainOlimar42 (talk) 20:40, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it depends on whether it makes sense to consider it one game with 2 versions, or a conflation of two games into one article; the current name ("Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U") and description ("conflation of several 2014 fighting video games on different platforms") leans towards the latter. The main guidance on the subject is Help:Modelling/Wikipedia and Wikimedia concepts § Compound Wikipedia articles and Help:Handling sitelinks overlapping multiple items, although the latter does not apply because there don't seem to be any wikis that actually treat them separately; based on that I guess it might make more sense to remove Wikipedia article covering multiple topics (Q21484471) but either way it's an awkward situation. (Note that I also only reverted the removal of Wikipedia article covering multiple topics (Q21484471), not the main subject (P921); it should be fairly easy to undo my undo) --Pokechu22 (talk) 21:00, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the links, the first one is pretty helpful. It states that Wikipedia article covering multiple topics (Q21484471) is only appropriate for Wikipedia articles where a conflation (Q14946528) takes place, which is not the case for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (Q1195150) as far as I'm concerned. The Wikidata items for Pokémon games with different versions are also using "has part" to list the separate versions, so I will adjust the Smash Bros article accordingly. --CaptainOlimar42 (talk) 14:42, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
